Travelodge Hotel - Southend on Sea

Maria was very helpful. 2nd time here (twin room) for an overnight stay. Clarence cafe nearby was good for lunch & breakfast. Hotel has comfy beds, conveniently located. Would recommend. Good on a budget.

The location is good, it’s within walking distance of 2 train stations and the seafront, but it’s also close to some bars so be prepared for a noisy stay. The car park opposite (Warrior Square) is a pay and display between 8am and 6pm and it’s not expensive. The hotel itself is clean and the rooms are spacious, but the temperature is awful! I stayed in May and July and it was absolutely sweltering in the rooms. You have a fan which doesn’t do much and if you keep the windows open you hear all the noise outside. I really think the rooms would benefit from air con or even having a portable air con unit. We had 2 very uncomfortable nights here.

Because of the plane crash at Southend-On-Sea Airport and cancellation of my flight I had to book a night there to avoid London prices. For 61.99 £ quite a budget stay in the center not far from shopping street and pier and check-out until 12 pm but quite loud in the morning from the drills of the nearby building sites. I had a family room with double bed and two single beds by the side. Because the reception is on the second floor you could invite two friends to share the night and price. The main entrance was at the side to the parallel street of the shopping street and not where you see the Travelodge logo. TV in the room and coffee making facilities had two small packets of espresso and teas and breakfast required an extra price. Wifi was given for 30 minutes and required an extra fee. If Travelodge could include an English breakfast service and free Wifi I would give 5 stars also for that price offer even last minute. After having to sleep two nights rough on London I had a great kip for more value than a 2-star-hotel might give. Southend-On-Sea Council should let the Pier open after 6 pm until night as I went there for the sunset and only the funfair remained open.

I would highly recommend avoiding this Travelodge you do not know if you're going to get told the truth from the reception the state of your room could be falling apart not good that's if it's being cleaned properly

Friendly and efficient checkin. I was able to leave my luggage until I checked in at 3pm. The room on the second floor overlooked the main road. There is no air conditioning, so a problem when the weather is hot. A fan was provided, but this was dirty. Spacious room for 2 people, two chairs and coffee & tea making facility. There is hand soap by the sink and one soap dispenser in the shower. Which was faulty. No shower mat provided. I had a restless night's sleep as it was difficult due to the heat. There was little noise during the night. Perhaps because it was a Sunday night. I would not stay here during the summer again. It's very close to the Southend Central train station, shops and restaurants.

If you are staying here so that you can go to the club/bar which is in the same building until 4am, and don't mind loud music blaring and clubbers screaming and shouting in the street until 4.30am then this is the place for you. If you are staying here for anything else, this is most definitely not the place to be. I left at 9am so that I could drive home and get some sleep. The outside of the hotel is tired, uninviting and doesn't feel safe for a solo traveller. The room was clean and comfortable, although I had to have the windows open because it smelled of urine. There were no other available rooms to move to. The staff on reception were very nice.
