We stayed at this hotel last weekend with our 2 young children. A parent is always anxious when staying at any hotel with young kids, but we were all made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We drove to the hotel which has its own parking directly beside it but it is also next door to the train and bus stations! What more could u ask for in terms of transport accessibility. (There is a steps up to reception but an external wheelchair lift right beside it). Our children were excited to go straight to the pool, which is relatively small but more than big enough to accommodate plenty of people. There is a regular pool and attached children's pool, which was ideal for our needs. The leisure centre staff provide towels and the changing facilities had lockers, 2 very good showers and 2 private changing rooms. On all 3 of our visits to the swimming pool (Fri, Sat and Sun) the various leisure staff provided our kids with pool toys and floats, which they loved. Gym, sauna and steam room facilities are also available which we didn't use but the gym is visible through the leisure centre lobby and it looks small but good. Our room (538) had a double bed and 2 single beds, a big bathroom with shower and bath, towel heater which was ideal for drying our swimming togs and also shampoo and shower gel provided. We also discovered that the couch in our room folded out into a double bed also! Which may suit some families more. The room itself had an ironing board, iron, fan, tea, and coffee making facilities, TV, desk area, wardrobe, etc Breakfast on both mornings was fantastic with a great range of hot and cold options (self service) and we also ate in the bar on one night, which was enjoyable. We only ordered drinks from room service but they came very quickly and the staff were so polite and friendly like all of the staff in the hotel, especially at breakfast and reception, they cannot do enough to help you! It's a short drive for those in cars to Glancar waterfall as well as the Devil's Chimney, and we also drove to Strandhill beach, which is a beautiful location also. The decor of the hotel is dated but the hotel is so clean that this only adds to the character in my opinion. The hotel is also undergoing redecoration too. Only one small negative which is the power of the shower in our room wasn't amazing, however we could shower in the leisure facilities if needed and also use the bath in our room too. Thank you to everyone in Sligo Southern Hotel for a fantastic family weekend away and we will most certainly be back!
