I recently stayed at Vivanta, Shillong with my family for a night, checking in on May 13th and checking out on May 14th. Upon arrival at around 9 AM, I was asked to pay a 25% early check-in fee despite the room being available. Having stayed at several Taj properties across India, I’ve never encountered this charge—typically, if the room is vacant, it is handed over without extra cost. That's the reason I checked out early and moved to another better property "Marriott" For comparison, I spent the following night at Marriott, Shillong, and the difference was striking. From service quality to buffet spread, no early check-in charges, infrastructure, and staff professionalism, Marriott far outshone Vivanta—all at nearly the same price point. Unfortunately, this experience has ensured that I won’t be returning to Vivanta, Shillong. This was my first and will be my last visit to this hotel. ---Prateek Arora
