Sean’s Guesthouse

Best part of Tiger Leaping Gorge is this end part where masses of tourists are no longer present. Food is great, nice views. definitely plan more hikes around here, than the traditional first part over halfway guesthouse etc.

I can’t encourage you enough to stay at Sean’s. Tiger Leaping Gorge does not stop at Tina’s. We walked to Sean’s from Tea Horse Guesthouse on our second day of our three day trip around Tiger Leaping Gorge. The only thing that we were disappointed in is that we didn’t come sooner! Sean’s Guesthouse is amazing, with super clean rooms with everything you need. As well as a common areas where you can view the stars at nice and socialise. The food was amazing and I definitely encourage you to try. We got to speak to Sean properly on our last morning there and he told us all about how he was there and watched the Tiger Leaping Gorge develop. He’s the most experienced guy there and cares simply for respecting the wildlife. We found he runs tours such as climbing, running, hiking and learning Chinese medicine. We’re so sad we had run out of time as we would love to do this.

The host is a very pleasant man. The rooms are simple but have everything you need after a hiking day. Also Sean is a very good cook and takes really good care of you.

Great guesthouse and well worth the hike! Sean is an absolute legend, impeccable English and a fountain of knowledge. He also organized a minibus for us to get back to Lijiang. Tiger Leaping Gorge trek does NOT finish at Tina’s (contrary what many blogs say); the path continues 50 minutes down the gorge, and then through the Ray of Sunshine trail, which is one of the most stunning parts of the trek. After 1 hour of beautiful views and walking through Walnut Grove, you will reach Sean’s (after a short hike back to main road). The rooms / bathrooms are a little dated; the food was great.

We stayed one night at Sean’s Guesthouse as part of our two day Tiger Leaping Gorge hike. We arrived late in the evening but that was no problem at all. Sean is a very friendly host who would welcome you at any time. We had a very nice dinner in the evening and breakfast in the morning. From our clean and well equipped private room we had a beautiful view on the surrounding mountains. We would definitely stay here again if we would return.

Great GH in Tigerleaping gorge away from the big streams of bus tourists at the viewing platform. Sean is a great guy who knows a lot about the area and can recommend routes and tell lots of stories. His English is also very good. Unfortunately we only came here on our last day and could not do much of it - would love to come again and check out the area more. Rooms are a little dated, but very clean cozy - ideal for a rest after a day of hiking. The food is all organic and tastes great - make sure to try the pan broiled bread - perfect after a day of hiking or as breakfast before starting a day of exploring. Sean’s GH is not marked on the trail like others, but it’s right at the street in Walnut Garden and easy to find. For those who want to hike the upper treck (highly recommended!) try to arrange transport directly to the 28bends (28拐 / er shi ba guai). We took the shuttle bus to the tiger leaping gorge scenic spot but it drops you off at a big viewing platform on the street and far from the hiking trail. We ended up walking by the street and getting a ride with a local woman passing us.
