Mercure Shanghai Yu Garden On the Bund

Morgenmaden var lækker, og børnene elskede især donuts. Det var en fantastisk fornemmelse at komme tilbage fra en gåtur langs Bund'en og nyde en sen aftensmad! Servicen var detaljeret og opmærksom. Vi checkede ind meget sent, og der var kun ét enkelt familieværelse tilbage. Hotelpersonalet opgraderede os derefter til et familieværelse og indrettede det som et tema-værelse! Vi vil helt sikkert bo her igen næste gang.

Excellent stay at Mercure Yu Garden Shanghai. The location is very convenient, close to Yu Garden, The Bund, and many food spots. Room was clean, comfortable, and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the stay. Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. Great value for the location and service. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Shanghai.

Disappointing Executive Experience - Would Not Recommend Rating: 2/5 (Mediocre) The only saving graces of our stay at the Mercure Yu Garden on The Bund were the great location and the fact that the cleanliness of the hotel was up to standard. The rest of the experience left a lot to be desired for a hotel of this chain. We booked an Executive Room, but honestly, it didn't feel like one at all; it completely failed to meet the expectations of that category. To make matters worse, the air conditioning malfunctioned, making our stay quite uncomfortable. The service and customer care were the weakest points: • Lack of information: No one informed us that there was a self-service laundry room for guests on the second floor. • Terrible laundry service: Since we weren't told about the guest laundry, we sent our clothes out through the hotel service. Not only did they charge us an exorbitant amount, but they also returned it late. I actually had to go and track it down myself because they wouldn't deliver it to our room. • Breakfast: We only tried it once and decided not to go back; we didn't really like it. In short, you pay for a "premium" service that you simply do not receive. I would not recommend it. They seriously need to improve their communication and how they manage their services.

The hotel is located very close to famous tourist destinations like The Bund & Yu Garden. There’s a mall right across the road with plenty of local restaurants. We booked 2 Queen-sized rooms for family of 3 adults & 3 children, and got 1 room free-upgraded to King-sized for more convinience. We were warmly welcomed by Lucas from FO - the only person can speak English we met during the whole trip to Shanghai. He managed to help us arrange the best room & offered reakfast for my 8-year-old kid. Delivery service is modern with the help of robot. It’s quite pity that when we arrived under heavy rain, there’s no bellman assisting us with luggages.

Excellent service, great location, very friendly staff (specially Lucas and the cleaning ladies). ✨ The room has a lot of space, very clean, big bed, maybe the only thing is that it’s a little bit cold. GREAT BUFFET BREAKFAST. 🍳☕️❤️ The staff let us check-out late, at 2pm, but you need to ask them first.

I booked this hotel expecting a proper 4-star stay, but unfortunately, it felt closer to a hostel in terms of comfort and service. The biggest issue was the room temperature. The AC only works for cooling — even in cold weather. The receptionist told us at check-in that there’s no heating. I was traveling with my son, and after a freezing night, he got sick and I woke up with a sore throat. Going to a cold bed after a long day is just miserable. The cleaner kept turning the AC back to cooling mode after each cleaning, so we’d return to an even colder room. There’s a smart toilet with a warm seat — ironic, given the rest of the room was like an icebox. No bathrobe either. Shower was fine, but that’s about it. Breakfast was very mediocre. Rice and side dishes were cold, the place was overcrowded, and many tables stayed dirty for a long time with no staff helping. The only positive: coffee was good. Service attitude felt like “whatever mode” — not what you’d expect from a 4-star. I asked for an upper floor with a view during booking, but it was completely ignored. I chose a room with a window — ended up on the 3rd floor facing another building’s windows, with rubbish bins downstairs. I could see into the neighbors’ apartments. Worst view I’ve ever had. They also claim on their website that currency exchange is available, but when I asked, staff told me to wait for banks to open and go there myself. The location is just okay — 10 min walk to Yu Garden and subway, 25 min to Nanjing Lu. Laundry room is a plus (free detergent), but expect a queue in the evening. Overall, this is a very average hotel. Definitely not 4-star. If there’s no other choice, it’s tolerable — but there are many better places to stay near Yu Garden. I would not recommend this hotel.

It was very cold, really cold and uncomfortable. After 3 days, I came back with a cold. The staff was really friendly and provided fast service. If you are traveling with a family, it would be better to choose a more comfortable hotel.

Mercure Shanghai Yu Garden on the Bund Best location and 5-stars to the patient staff that make a Shanghai visit memorable! Great communication with the hotel staff that made us feel most welcome with a toiletries package for a 4-night stay. Shanghai can be intimidating to intrepid travellers that don’t speak Chinese, which is why many foreigners join organised tours. We appreciate the welcome email prior to arrival with directions. We were spoiled with the 5-star cruise aboard the Yangzi Explorer discovering cities along the Yangtze River in a tour group with bilingual guides. There are so many optional activities in Shanghai, and these were the highlights suggested by the hotel staff that spoke in English and occasionally used a translation device for clear communication. They wrote the Chinese name which was helpful as we wandered the maze of streets in this old part of Shanghai. The staff were patient with our limited Chinese and Lucas helped us with Chinese lessons. These were the top picks, all within walkable distance, except ERA2. · TAN Sichuan in Yu Garden for dinner on arrival · The famous Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant in Yu Garden for the traditional handmade xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) for brunch · High tea · Dinner at The Fellas (chateaubriand for two) rooftop bar with a a breathtaking view of the Bund and Pudong skyline · Jazz in the Long Bar in Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on the Bund, though we also went to hear the Jazz Band in Peace Hotel but don’t waste your money on the CNY480pp minimum spend where there was no vibe where even the musicians seemed bored.
