The Golden Lion at Settle

My mother in law and aunty were booked to stay there on 27th October for a wedding. They checked in and were given a key. As the room was not ready they took their luggage and were told to use the main door as they would be back late. When they arrived back the door was locked when it should not have been. Key card would not work. The number listed just rang out and out and several voicemails were left by them and me. 1am the morning and two elderly ladies left outside in the cold. Why do they not have a night porter/emergency number? We had to travel from Lancashire to come pick them up in the early hours and then drop them back off. The emergency procedures need seriously reviewing and someone putting on call to answer the phone in the case of emergencies, and to not to lock the door when guests need to get in. They were banging on the door and we left numerous messages which still nobody has had the courtesy to ring up and apologise. Customer service leaves a lot to be desired

Booked a overnight stay at the Golden lion, the room was clean, warm and we had a super comfy bed. Shower powerful and all toiletries supplies. Staff are very friendly and engaging, food excellent we had lunch and then breakfast, all meals hot and service very good. Roaring fire in the pub lounge area, great selection of beers. All in all a wonderful stay and overall experience excellent Thank you

We went for an evening meal and what a lovely pub it is. Right on the high street its a beautiful looking building. The interior is beautiful. Very cosy and welcoming. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. We would highly recommend this lovely place

What a great place to stay in the heart of Settle. The Golden Lion with its open fires, friendly, welcoming and efficient staff make you feel at home. The rooms are to a good standard, with excellent quality beds and bedding with a little added luxury of Whites Company bathroom products. The added bonus for us that is also dog friendly with even providing dog blankets and towels at the entrance if you require them. The breakfast is of the highest standard with excellent quality ingredients and nothing is too much other for the attentive staff. We also used the restaurant on the Saturday evening and the food, drink and service were also faultless. When we visit different places we usually attempt to try different accommodations to see what is on offer, but when we visit settle again in the near future we will be staying again at the Golden Lion, no need to try anywhere else, friendly, comfortable and good value for money, why go elsewhere.

Sunday lunch looked good but the other meals were mediocre and over-priced. The chickpea, charred aubergine and feta salad sounded lovely but it wasn’t freshly made and had clearly been sitting in the satay dressing for some time. When my soggy beige salad arrived I wished I had ordered the homemade cheese and red onion marmalade pie which sounded great but when it arrived it was seriously underwhelming. If the quality of the food matched the description on the menu then the prices were about right, as it was they were over-priced.
