The Place at Evoramonte

My friend and I stayed three nights at The Place At Evoramonte and it was definitely the highlight of our trip. Vicki and Mitch Webber were very warm and welcoming hosts, immediately making us feel completely at home in their lovely guest house and the location was incredible - set on a hilltop next to a castle in a quaint little village with panoramic views of the entire area. The rooms were very tastefully done and the beds were the most comfortable we had experienced during our travels. And the chorizo pizza that Mitch made for me for dinner was the best I'd ever eaten! They also went out of their way to provide us with some helpful sight-seeing and restaurant tips. I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone travelling to Portugal. When the sun is out - as it invariably is in this part of the world - the 'place' really is heaven on earth. On a long sun soaked day, there is nothing better than to sit with a glass of wine - or two - and just absorb the view from your balcony area. The vista really is incredible, and the skies are huge. On this, our fourth visit, we even had the perfect view of a once in 80,000 years comet whilst enjoying our evening meal. The hosts really are so good, they probably even managed to organise that for us all. If you choose to come here, you too will want to return.

Having visited the Alentejo many times this was our first time in Evoramonte. And, in particular at The Place, run by Vicky and Mitch. And what a place! Set high up on the hill overlooking the valley, with spectacular views, the rooms we had were cosy but totally in keeping with the old part of the building. And with the most comfortable beds. We were there to celebrate birthdays with friends and they made us feel so welcome. From the moment we arrived with the cakes and bubbles, the fabulous bbq served to us on their terrace, the help and support in booking activities and restaurants, to even helping us rescue a goat that we discovered caught in a fence in the middle of nowhere! That was way beyond the realms of their duty. I say duty but nothing seemed like a duty to them. On the contrary it seemed like a passion. And for us it felt like a home from home. All this coupled with the ideal location for exploring the Alentejo means that, for us at least, it really is The Place to stay.

The secluded, peaceful location on top of a mountain is amazing! Vicki and Mitch have created a paradise for travelers looking for a unique experience. We stayed in Room 1 (there are only 4) with a huge patio terrace and spectacular views of the region. All of the accommodations are modern including marble bathrooms with rain showers and plenty of hot water. The bed and pillows were superb. There are a lot of wonderful niches/places to just relax, read or meditate. Breakfast was excellent. The hosts could not do enough for you and provided comprehensive information on the area, including maps and food recommendations. You can also have dinner with them if you don't want to go down to the village below. A unique and memorable property!

The place is really The place to disconnect, relax, enjoy the views and terraces. Great breakfast! On top of this, Vicki and Mitch are the best hosts - they make everything to make sure your stay is the best. Thank you very much for everything! We will be back.

This was our third visit to The Place, and it certainly was a case of “third time lucky”. Vicky and Mitch have been amazing and knowledgeable hosts on all of our visits. They continue to be really helpful and this visit, like our previous ones, has been very special. This time we were a group of four. We all enjoyed the quiet accommodation, great food and Five Star service from the brilliant Vicky and Mitch team. The views from the terrace are top-notch too! Very highly recommended.
