Hotel Tauernhof

All in all, we had a good holiday - not an all-time great holiday, but we had a fun time with friends and family. What we liked: 1) Location: Großarl is about an hour south of Salzburg, and the Großarltal is a beautiful valley with great hikes and fantastic views. 2) Hotel: Most of the hotel is quite freshly renovated and has a modern, yet alpine-rustic style. We liked our room, with its south facing balcony, and enjoyed some of the amenities a lot. Most notably: the kids playrooms & playground, and the pools (a large jacuzzi, one indoor-outdoor pool, one outdoor pool and a shallow kids pool). 3) Food: Breakfast was the meal of the day. A fantastic, big buffet with a few fun features such as the waffle maker that our son really enjoyed. Brilliant fresh bread, lots of local produce, and eggs made to order. What didn't work: 1) Building noise. The hotel next door, and several others in the village, are doing a huge renovations right now (June 2023). We counted 9 cranes standing in front of the hotel. The noise was constant from 6 am to past 9 pm. We could not use our balcony or leave windows open over night without getting a loud wake-up call - and the rooms were super stuffy with closed windows, so we did not manage to sleep in at all on our holiday. We also couldn't use the hotel's beautiful outdoor terrace - it was just too loud. We would have appreciated it if the hotel had informed us of the building works before we arrived, as we would have booked elsewhere. The discount we received at checkout, after complaining, didn't make up for lost sleep. 2) Evening meals: Generally the evening meals were good (salad buffet, 4 courses to choose from plus a cheese buffet); however, on one evening we sadly experienced a kitchen meltdown. There was a party elsewhere in the hotel, and the kitchen did not cope. We stayed in the restaurant for 2 hours, had a starter and soup, and after multiple complaints managed to get main courses for our children. Then we left, without having made it to the main course ourselves, as the kids just couldn't sit still any longer. The hotel responded to our feedback on this very well though, and we think/hope that this was a one-off issue. I would still rate this as a four-star experience (3.5 stars if that was an option on TripAdvisor), but it wasn't flawless. The generosity and superb organisation that we've been lucky enough to experience on other holidays in Austria were not present here, but it is a nice place to stay overall.

We visited as part of a crystal finest holiday and things were not good, it was reasonable until their was a sewage smell all throughout our room, speaking to reception brought nothing much of a response, open a window was the solution. We had just been for a day on the slopes and wanted to relax and have a shower but nothing was offered from the hotel staff. We'd have been happy to have a drink in the bar and wait till it cleared but they offered zero and said open the window. The sewage truck was directly below the window so can't see how that would have helped. Really poor service and I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all.

Unser Aufenthalt im Hotel Tauernhof war einfach fantastisch und hat alle unsere Erwartungen übertroffen! Schon bei der Ankunft wurden wir herzlich begrüßt, und das Personal kümmerte sich von Anfang an um uns, sodass wir uns sofort willkommen fühlten. Das Zimmer war sehr komfortabel und stilvoll eingerichtet. Es bot einen traumhaften Ausblick auf die umliegenden Berge, was jeden Morgen und Abend ein echtes Highlight war. Die Sauberkeit und Ausstattung ließen keine Wünsche offen, und man merkt, dass das Team auf jedes Detail achtet. Ein besonderes Highlight war der Wellnessbereich – ideal, um nach einem Tag in den Bergen zu entspannen. Die Saunen und der Pool waren immer gepflegt und ruhig, sodass wir uns perfekt erholen konnten. Auch kulinarisch hat uns der Tauernhof voll überzeugt. Das Frühstücksbuffet war umfangreich und von höchster Qualität, mit vielen regionalen Produkten. Das Abendessen im Hotelrestaurant war jedes Mal ein Genuss – die Vielfalt und die Frische der Gerichte waren einfach top! Die Lage des Hotels ist perfekt für Natur- und Sportliebhaber. Egal ob Wandern im Sommer oder Skifahren im Winter, hier findet man alles direkt vor der Tür. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team des Tauernhof

Ein rundum empfehlenswertes Wander und Wellnesshotel ! Tägliches Aktivprogramm, feine Speisen, gemütliche Zimmer, sehr freundliches Personal, nette Inhaber, Top-Sauna und Ruheräume. Infinitypool mit Wasserliegen. Einzig der Lärm, den die Kleinkinder (naturgemäß) mit Familien in dem inneren Poolbereich machen, ist sehr störend. Schön wäre es, den Zugang zum Infinitypool nur für Erwachsene zu bestimmen, um denen ein Schwimmen in Ruhe zu gönnen.

Der Tauernhof ragt wirklich aus der breiten Masse des sehr guten Hotels heraus. Auch im Gespräch mit den anderen Gästen war die Meinung unisono "mehr Hotel braucht es nicht" und im Gegensatz zu anderen bietet der Tauernhof dies zu einem sehr realistischen Preisniveau an. Essen, Spa und das sonstige Angebot sind top und bewegen sich bei diesem Preisniveau an der absoluten Obergrenze. Besonders ins Auge gefallen sind uns: a) man fühlt sich von Beginn an wohl und persönlich integriert. Dies ist bei vielen Hotels speziell in dieser Größe keine Selbstverständlichkeit. Und b) wird Nachhaltigkeit wirklich gelebt und nicht nur in den Hotelprospekt geschrieben. Alleine solchen Details wie die Käseauswahl am Buffet verdient höchstes Lob da man nicht einfach hochpreisige Premiumprodukte einkauft sondern lokale Dinge von Top-Qualität anbietet die es in Kettenhotels nicht gibt. Auch erwähnenswert ist die breite Altersabdeckung: für kleinere Kinder gibt es einen Streichelzoo und ein eigenes Menu, unsere eigenen Töchter sind im Pubertätsalter und fanden es auch toll und für Erwachsene wird sowieso viel geboten. Also rundum ein kompletter entspannter Familienurlaub ohne nervende Gören :-) um die Seele baumeln zu lassen.
