Mariposa Jungle Lodge

We had a wonderful stay. Exceptional service and hospitality provided by the staff. Chef Norma's food was delicious and beautifully presented. The excursions were both informative and exciting. We enjoyed immersing ourselves in Maya culture. It was a trip we will remember for the rest of our lives.

Terrible experience. I booked through trip advisor because it listed the hotel as being in San Ignacio. It is not. It nes roughly 30 minutes outside and with little to no access to anything outside of the lodge. I was traveling with a 7 year old so upon finding the location was not as stayed and all of my prepaid excursions would charge nearly $100 more each to come to the area, I immediately reached out to cancel. I got no response back from the hotel for nearly a eeek other than a generic email asking about food preferences. Once I reached out to trip advisor I got a message about a day before my stay. The hotel not trip advisor would help and I was charged over $400 for the 2 days I did not stay there. The tract of my trip in Belize was amazing. I’m sure some people would enjoy staying in remote jungle locate with no communication but that’s not what I signed up for and got cheated.

Ideal location to be based at while visiting the San Ignacio area. Spotlessly clean, comfortable cabins. Beautiful, well-maintained grounds and pool area. Friendly, attentive staff (including reception, restaurant and housekeeping). An absolute highlight is the food! We purchased a breakfast and dinner meal plan and we got to enjoy a series of amazing, perfectly cooked meals. The chef designed the menu according to our dietary requirements and food preferences and exceeded all our expectations. We went as a group of 11 people, including 5 children, and everyone raved about the food. A few minor improvements that could be made are changing towels more frequently. Guests are encouraged to reuse bathroom and pool towels for environmental reasons, but the high humidity climate makes it impossible for them to dry and after a day they tend to smell. We left our wet pool towels on the cabin floor to signal we wanted them changed, only to find them again folded on the coffee table (but still drenched!). Also the hefty 10 USD per person fee to use the sauna was a disappointment. Finally, the tours offered by Mariposa are expensive and we were able to arrange them for a much cheaper price by booking them directly with the suppliers (including transfers). If you can, you should rent a car to explore the area as taxis are expensive. Nonetheless, we highly recommend Mariposa and we would gladly return for another stay in the future.
