Hotel Boutique Balcón de la Plaza

We chose here to be central in Salta so we could walk out in the evening easily. Location wise this hotel can’t be bettered. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful with the bags as our room was upstairs and there is no lift. Our room was nicely finished with safe, fridge and AC but on the small side with now where to put anything down like a table. We were a bit concerned about the shower as it was in a very slippery bath and there was no non-slip mat. The bed was very comfortable. There was a lot of hammering and drilling from the adjacent hotel, reception were very helpful and went to ask what was going on but the noise didn’t finish until 11.00. Hopefully this was a one-off. Breakfast is standard Argentine fare, with a choice of freshly cooked eggs. It started at 7am and we had to leave at 7.45 so we thought that would be fine. When we arrived at 7 a large party of French tourists had arrived early and eaten nearly everything on the table, the staff worked hard to replace it but we never got any fruit salad.

The Balcon De La Plaza is perfectly situated next to the central square of Salta within easy reach of all the tourist sites. It has a cheap car park next door for those who are driving. It is an interesting building which is full of character. The rooms are spaced well apart along a central corridor. Our room had an external terrace which was shared with another room. There was virtually zero noise from the street guaranteeing a good nights sleep. The rooms were clean and comfortable with king size beds and good air conditioning, i suggest they were at a good 3 star level. The staff were helpful and went the extra mile, for example by helping us with some currency exchange. No complaints and I am pleased we selected this hotel.

this 10=room hotel is a half-a block from the main Parque de Julio 9 with its restaurants, money-changers, trees, lovers, the basilica and museums. Also sleeping dogs. The hotel design is intriguing, with 3 small colonial court-yards between the rooms. They are open to the sky and provide wonderful light to the interior and through windows to the rooms. One has a working fountain, and all have places to sit and contemplate. The front desk is most helpful providing advice, calling taxi's and carrying luggage upstairs (there is no elevator to the second floor). They also arranged a city tour and we especially appreciated the emergency laundry service they provided on a week-end. The breakfast room has a great choice of hot and cold food, plus a television to watch Argentinian World Cup games. The attention to detail that defines the hotel was shown by a request for spoons for our breakfast table. The manager went and got them, and instead of just handing them to us presented them to us on a small plate. What a detail! They are quite flexible and helpful if you wish to pay in Pesos. Something to consider would be to provide a small table and chair in the room for a laptop. I had to set up shop in the empty breakfast room to use my computer at night. The Wi Fi tended to be slow during busy times.
