Hawthorne Hotel

Let's remember this is a historical Hotel for context. Let's start with the positives: Location!!, Most of the front desk staff, event staff bartenders and servers. Classic looking place like the tavern and Nathanial's many of the suites/rooms, nice banquet facilities and allows some pets Negatives any 01 room(601,501 etc feet hung off the bed 6'+ No closet see pic) and some others very tiny see pics, no gym or pool, not soundproof. Again a historical hotel

The hotel was very nice and old/antique, but also modern and really luxurious at the same time. It’s right in the center of Salem and you are close to all the top attractions and museums. The room was very nice and spacious. They have two great restaurants in the lobby that serve great food, with very nice waiters. All around, this is one of the best and top hotels in Salem, and highly recommend it.

Did not stay here - just ate dinner in main restaurant adjacent to lobby. MEAL WAS EXCELLENT. Manager/host was leading us to our seats and overheard me say to husband that I'd love a specific table, and he led us right to THAT spot. Atmosphere so cozy - wood paneled walls and bookcases - fireplace. Beautifully decorated for the fall, as was the lobby. Warm and welcoming all around.

Went on a girls trip to Salem and the must stay was the Hawthorne - so glad we booked a full year in advance in order to be able to stay here. A charming hotel with a rich history, and absolutely beautiful when you walk in. Pros: seamless check in process, friendly staff with all interactions; including check-inn, front desk requests, booking a reservation for their Tavern restaurant, and a special shout out to our great waitress Nickolette! Parking is so key in this small city, so the fact that the hotel has their own lot was great. Location is A+ in regards to being centrally located to all the walkable hot spots one would want to visit. While bustling with special events and a wedding seemingly every day, the hotel overall was quiet which was a welcome benefit after walking the city in the dreary rain all day. Beds were comfortable, Tavern sweet potato fries were excellent, room service breakfast was such a convenient treat! Good to know: bathrooms (at least in the double queen we got) are TINY. Barely room to make a full 360 turn for one average sized adult. The hotel is very very old, the wallpaper was bubbling in our room, and the ceiling had many many defects but that was to be expected. You can request a box fan for the room; we found out the temperature of the hotel is what the temperature of the rooms are (cannot individually control room temps). The windows also do open which was a welcome surprise. Overall, this hotel was so charming and I would stay here again in a heart beat!

I’ll be very honest right now the bartenders were great the food awsome the atmosphere in the bar area really nice but what ruined it from me giving 5 stars the lad at the front desk called my wife a liar and was so nasty SUCKS SOMEONE LIKE THAT HAS TO RUIN SUCH A HISTORICAL PLACE NEXT TIME ILL BE LOOKING TO STAY ELSEWHERE YOU SHOULD TOO

We are regular visitors of the Tavern restaurant and bar located inside the Hawthorne Hotel and love when Allison is working. Allison has a way of making everyone feel welcome and makes the best drinks in all of Salem. Try her Espresso Martini.

This was a great hotel. Walking distance from all the major attractions, the hotel is charming and comfortable. Having preserved its 1925 look, the hotel is a great place for a short stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff is kind and very helpful. Only two issues: the food at the hotel's restaurant is greatly overpriced and our bathroom light kept turning on by itself during the night. All in all, I loved this hotel and will definitely stay here next time I’m in Salem!

We ate at the restaurant and it rivaled the food we get on the Las Vegas *****. The cheese board was the best that I’ve ever had with the honey and strawberry jam to accompany the cheese and local fruit. The duck was great! Prepared well with a nice citrus sauce.
