Retallack Resort

I would give this resort 3.5/5. Accommodation was very spacious. Fridge freezer needed fixing asthere was a crack in it (still fully functional though), so did one of the shower screens and one of the toilets didnt flush,but the Accommodation had 3 bathrooms so it wasnt a big issue for us. Liked the fact that the lodge had a balcony, patio/decking area at the front and back. Swimming pool not overly big but again, no issue for us. Activities were good but more is needed at Retallack Resort and spa. Would definitely go here again if there were more activities during the day and evening.

We stayed at number 31 Hillside for 4 weeks. It was a double and a twin roomed barn with en-suite and full sized bathroom. I have limited mobility and this was fabulous. I walk with a frame and found it easy enough for me to get around. The main bedroom is a good size and was very comfortable. We had a hot tub but I wasn’t able to get in unfortunately. These are looked after by a nice team. Especially Brandon who was always pleasant and respectful, he worked hard. Then there’s Jen from Birmingham. She’s magic so good at her job. I have tried to deal with others but to no avail. She made our stay! Being kind, caring and compassionate. She really tried her hardest to support us and our needs. We found it so peaceful and a real bolt hole for those that want to get away from it. Beautiful bed linens and towels and plenty of them. Nice furniture and contemporary feel. Nice ovens and microwaves Accessible for people with limited mobility. Easy to use showers. Nice decking and patio area. My family all came to visit and we purchased a bbq online and had it delivered direct to the barn. I just asked Jen if I needed something extra and she had it delivered. Such a lovely break.

The restaurant is full of inexperienced youngsters. Cold desserts, main course you order steak pie and get chicken pie, waiting ages for drinks. No soap in toilets when you have breakfast go toilet no soap, return that night still no soap so how do they monitor toilets ? Clearly not hourly. You wash your hands after using the toilet don’t you ? At breakfast I went to the toilet next door however at dinner there was no soap in either toilet. How are your customers washing their hands after using the toilets?? Disgusting. Breakfast your told no ham for the omelette so you order mushroom and cheese omelette then guess what ? A ham omelette arrives. It’s like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. To add the bar staff slag the kitchen staff off stating takes two people all this time to make a decision and they still can’t make their minds up, YES that’s from the bar staff. Drinks are served in broken glasses more than once. Bingo night not that I’m a bingo fan but closing the Bar then starting bingo really ?? Beds are uncomfortable. The day we arrived there were so many things broken in the appartment we had to request a move. Hot tub was hit and miss sometimes cold. I’m not impressed at all. £4500 for two weeks to receive all the above. Flow rider has always been one of the best parts but even that was terrible today as the instructor was poor. However the instructor the other day was amazing. We been coming here 8 years as it is expensive and you expect a higher end of clientele no yobs but I doubt I’ll return. It’s had its problems over the years one year we even had no water for anything and were given water for one hour every 6 hours. If my wife books here again I won’t be booking the time off of work I can assure you of that. Very very disappointing to say the least.

Booked a barn with roof hot tub with 6 friends for a special birthday. Arrived Friday afternoon for 2 nights, went up to check the roof patio to find it dirty, bird poo on furniture, which was also ripped in places, crisps on the table, hot tub not on and the underneath of the table flaking away. Reception number that was given wasn't working. Eventually went through to head office who sent someone to turn the hot tub on and told us it would be ready in the morning. Not good as we'd planned booked activities for the weekend and Friday evening was hot tub night! Only 2 of the 4 jets worked so when it did finally get up to temperature it wasn't fully working. The bar and cover were also very old and worn looking. There are robes supplied, but not enough for everyone as whoever was staying in the very small twin room didn't have any supplied. Incidentally, no hooks or storage in that room so be aware if it's not just children in there. As we'd booked for 7 adults you'd have thought they would supply the robes for 7?! The sofa was dirty and the legs bent so you felt like you were going to slide off it. The drain in one of the showers was blocked so we had flooding in the bathroom, but we unblocked it ourselves. One toilet roll per bathroom for 7 of us ran out! I mean I know it's self catering but that is basics. We weren't told on booking that nothing supplied, 2 dishwasher tablets wasn't enough for 4 meals to be made in the barn. Then there was the oven. If you're expecting to be able to cook for a family forget using the oven. It's like a microwave which you can turn to oven, but has no shelves so you can't put more than one thing in it at a time. Overall for the price it's not great, and I wouldn't come back. We were told that the hot tub staff had all left, not really our problem. Very disappointing really. It's a long walk to The Meadows from reception so also be prepared to drive around the resort if you don't want or can't walk far.

Perfect base to explore Northern Cornwall. Good facilities in the 2 bed barn with beautiful bathrooms and comfortable beds with crisp linen and fluffy towels. Quiet location on the Meadows but was a fairly long walk to reception so tended to drive. Good WiFi connectivity. Temperature control difficult (it was very hot when we visited) and curtains to the top of the living room windows would be beneficial. Club house has great warm pool with sauna and steam room but opening hours didnt really work for us as the last session was 5pm. The restaurant was ok with food on a par with Wetherspoons, so nothing fancy but well presented with decent choices but the service let them down. We didn’t use the gym spa or water sports options so can’t comment on that. Their app is useless. Was a pointless download as didn’t work while we were there.

Although we stayed in one of the supposedly luxury bungalows, we found the interior to be finished in cheap furnishings. It was very tired looking to the outside of the property with rusty outdoor furniture. The setting was very unkempt considering the rest of the site. We were also surprised that we were only given one toilet roll per bathroom and it would have been a nice gesture to have been given toiletries. The windows to the property in particular the patio doors were filthy. The entertainment was it to our taste. Despite this, we thought the location was very central to our needs and the site was clean.
