Baker Safari Company

A charming and delightful experience! We absolutely loved our time at Baker & Sons Safari. We spent 5 days in the well supplied stone cabin and found ourselves impressed with every detail; my wife was constantly pointing out its "lovely character." Imagine sitting in the morning on the balcony having coffee as the wildlife puts on their best show. We joked that the colubus monkeys might be on the payroll. Our evenings were spent watching the sun go down on the Rufiji river and listening to the hippos, making themselves heard. Everything was clean and immaculate. The manager Moses made sure that all our needs were met. We wished we had brought more family along to experience what we shared. Big Thanks for a great time, Baker and Sons!

The Bakers are great hosts and the staff at the lodge were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and thoughtfully chosen and prepared, with generous portions. We enjoyed the beautiful location, our day in the park, and our boat safari. We saw some beautiful birds, crocodiles, hippos, giraffes, elephants, and hyenas, among other animals, and enjoyed the colobus that hung around the lodge. One of the best things about using their company is they picked us up in Dar es Salaam and drove us to the lodge and back, creating a hassle-free experience (and protecting our car from the road :)).

The accommodations were super fun rustic-style huts, beds comfy, shower Ok. Our food was plentiful, excellent and quite western, on the river location with lots of crocs and hippos, great staff. Loved the nostalgic record player, old records and monkeys surrounding us! . The Safari was very good and fishing made my husband’s day. If you are expecting a guided experience you might consider it more of a boat experience and you should be experienced yourself and bring your own gear. Many tiger fish were hooked, but few landed. Plan on fishing amongst wonderful wildlife and lots of crocs! The man-killing lion tour on the way home needed more of a tie-in to the Lodge and could be shortened up. We had a great time and the Bakers were easy to work with!

The customer service is very good. Moses did a great job.He got us everything we needed. Everything was on schedule. The food is very good and plentiful. The Rufiji River is beautiful. Each activity - the boat ride, game drive, hike, hot water springs - was well thought out and fun and informative. We would definitely return.

An excellent lodge on the border of Nyerere Natl Park. All activities were arranged in advance and you just needed to communicate with Baker & Sons what you wanted. They have packages, but we opted to stay longer and create our own package, which was no problem. First… the service was excellent and the staff were exceptionally friendly. We were genuinely sad to leave after almost a week. Food was plentiful and well prepared. We needed gluten free meals and were accommodated without any issue. Very nice. They have a water filtration system and we had no problems with drinking water on site as well. Bottled in the room or at meals. Beers and sodas were at reasonable prices as well. Moses, the lead manager, always took care of us. We even had a tire going flat on our rental and he personally went with us into Mloka to help us get it serviced. We can’t give enough praise to him and the rest of the staff. Excellent. As to activities… We did 3 driving safaris, a night safari, a walking safari and a river boat trip. Also, we had a couple free days to relax. We had a great time. We enjoyed the driving safaris the most and the night drive was awesome and unique. We got to see different nocturnal critters and it was a nice change. The walking safari was 2nd and river boat was third. Basically, for us, we had been in TZ for almost a month and the river activity didn’t offer anything new. It might be different for you. The facilities were nice and along the Rufiji River. You can hear hippos and watch monkeys while dining. Very enjoyable and peaceful. For payment it’s nice that you can use credit card here for booking the trip and on site. Of course, cash on site is no problem as well. I’d stay with Baker & Sons again.

Rooms in a wooden hut, unther the dining place. At the early morning always noise because people has early breakfast. It's like the guests are walking near the bed. Small room, rough bathroom. crew do their best, but the only thing that count is money, money, money. Only the local manager speaks English, no talk with the other crew. Food is OK. We had a lot of remarks, the local manager calls the owner (he is in Dar-es-Salaam) and we get an agreement.
