You check in online via an app which literally opens the doors, there is no reception to speak of. There is supposed to be someone around during the day but we never managed to track them down. We were on the 4th floor, reached via very narrow, very steep and unlit sets of stairs. We’re in our 70s, and struggled with our trolley bags. The fact they’re unlit is a trip hazard waiting to happen and if you’re not in fairly good condition you’ll find the steepness a trial. There is no fire escape that we could see, if there is a fire then you’d probably perish; how this place got a fire safety certificate is a mystery. Our room was small and basic. The bed is on a platform against a wall so awkward if you’re short like me. A small cubicle held the shower, which you have to step through to reach the toilet. Not very private either as it has frosted glass walls. The window opened only a couple of inches, safety reasons no doubt, but it meant there was little fresh air. The air conditioning didn’t work, neither did the WiFi password or the Netflix app on the tv. The table lamp didn’t work, and the shower leaked into the room. There were only three or four hooks for clothes, we had to live out of our suitcases for the duration of our stay. Owing to the invisible staff none of this could be reported; other reviews have mentioned the bar next door but we were unaware we should be searching in there for any assistance. This also meant we couldn’t purchase vouchers for breakfast which was at another venue. In short, this hotel is in a central location so handy for most things but is of a low standard and unsafe into the bargain.
