Newcastle House Rothbury

Went for a pub lunch. Barman very helpful, good beer. Bar dated and in need of renovation. Ordered food. BIG MISTAKE. Worst pub meal we’ve ever experienced. Undercooked gammon, rock hard garden peas and burnt greasy chips. Won’t ever eat in there again it was awful and not wishing to make a fuss we paid and left. It was obvious we hadn’t enjoyed the meal as most of it was still on the plates. Felt positively sick when we got outside it was so bad. Be warned, great beer awful food.

We had a voucher given to us for Redletterdays and since we wanted to go to Cragside House, we booked in here for two nights. We didn't even stay for one night. A workman had to go and find someone to help us as there was noone around to ask. The computer took an age to fire up and when it did, we were told that we had a bunk room. I did not book a bunk room as we are 65 and 76 and it would not appeal to either of us to climb a ladder to go to bed. When I said that wasn't acceptable, it was a case of, well that's all there is. My other half had gone to the toilet and when he came back, he said there were holes in the linoleum on the floor. The whole place had not a nice smell about it and looked down trodden. The photo on the site looked lovely, but in reality it's anything but. The pictures I took of the outside, made it look better than it was. I would never visit there again.

We visit The Newcastle House regularly but this was our first time having the Sunday carvery and it didn’t disappoint. There was a good choice of well cooked meats with all the trimmings plenty of vegetables the tastiest gravy and the service was fantastic.

Went for Sunday lunch took one look at the pink turkey and lump of fat passing as pork and got my money back and went to the Turks head up the street beautiful meal a far cry from other three members who stayed and was disgusted one has a bad stomach the other two just left most possibly the worst lunch in 52 years on this earth being sold in this place go to Turks head for quality

Great bar not much to say there. There is a function room and a bar. The bar was small with music and good drinks. Average furnishings but clean and simple. Not yet stayed here but if we are up we may stay there but we are currently staying in riverside lodges which is a great park with 6 caravans all furnished beautifully and only across the water. Great bakeries all around and definitely worth a visit if you’re in Rothbury.

Some of the best real ales served in the north east. Nice bars serving good food. Modestly priced room for walkers right in the centre of rothbury. Sport shown in front bar. The staff are All very sociable keeping the best cellar for miles around.
