Overbearing host Unfortunately we only stayed one of the two nights we booked. On our first night, while having a glass of wine on the front porch, we kept getting distracted by the noise of the intercom from the security camera. We could hear our host watching tv in the background with the intercom on. It kind of creeped everyone out, so while we were out there, I just stood in front of the camera. After about 30 seconds of this, our host came over the intercom and told me to move away from the camera, to which I replied "why?"We moved inside shortly after and my phone started blowing up with text and vrbo messages from the host, telling me that it was an automated voice telling me to move from the camera (it wasn't; we have the same cameras at home) and that if I tampered with the camera (I didn't touch it) that I'd be charged an absorbadent fee. She then sent me a video clip of us standing on the porch for some reason.Vrbo standards clearly state that any camera located on a rental property must be disclosed in the listing. It wasn't.Furthermore, the listing ameneties included a hot tub which wasn't operational but instead covered with a tarp filled with rainwater and dead leaves.We slept on it that night, but when we woke up on the second day, we looked around and found other lodging.In short, someone who exercises this level of surveillance and scrutiny over their guests simply shouldn't list their house for short-term rentals.
