The Benjamin House

We stayed here for three nights and found our rooms comfortable, clean and quiet. It's a slow ten minute walk to the city centre, train station and bus station so it covers all the bases. However, we found the lack of staff in reception disconcerting. We used a key code to get through the front door and to get our room keys. We are all fairly independent and self reliant travellers so we were OK but guests wanting a concierge on hand for help and advice or room service will be disappointed. Still, you get what you pay for and this place was good value for money.

I’m fascinated by the impressive architecture and the charming interior of Benjamin House. The breakfasts (on weekends) are not only delicious but also delightfully Instagram worthy. The morning coffee in the garden by the fountain is exceptional! A true pleasure for those who appreciate beauty.

Staying in The Benjamin House certainly added to the enjoyment of our 5 nights in Riga. Location is great, opposite Vermanes Gardens, with a good choice of breakfast cafés close by. We walked extensively around the city. We arrived late in the evening and self check-in worked perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of our room. It was warm and well furnished in a traditional way, in keeping with the rest of the building. The first floor entertaining rooms, which you could wander through, were lovely. The bar is open only at weekends. Contact by WhatsApp seemed a good system and we had a quick response to our request to leave luggage on our departure day. The left luggage room isn’t locked, however. Our request for cleaning and towel change was met but we would have liked a plug for the bath, which we requested, but it didn’t materialise. We are surprised at the very negative reviews on TA. BH is an unusual place to stay, but exceptional value, and for the traveller who prefers something a little different, we would definitely recommend.

No staff around at all when we checked in (self check in) the keys wouldn't open the room took 30 min to get hold of somone to ix tje problem after travelling all day not ideal. Asked for extra pillows, I had to ask 3 times throughout the day. States late check out on request. However, they declined, stating they needed the room, but the hotel was empty throughout our stay. Check out was 11am and at 11.00am house keeping were banging on the door asking us to leave. They need to be shown customer service. We felt like we were a burden our entire stay, not paying guests.
