Our stay at the Daisy Apartment Hotel in Rethymno can only be described as a horrifying ordeal that no guest should ever have to endure. Prepare yourself for a nightmarish journey through incompetence, deception, and a total disregard for guest well-being. We arrived at the hotel around 5:00 PM, and from the very beginning, it was evident that our experience would be nothing short of a disaster. To start, we were intentionally assigned a smoking room, a detail conveniently omitted during booking. The receptionist, Stavroula, had the audacity to demand full payment upfront, even before we had a chance to see our room. It struck me as highly unusual, given my extensive experience in the hotel industry, where payment is typically processed as either pre-payment or after check-out. As we entered the room, the puzzle pieces fell into place. The room was a repulsive, nightmarish spectacle of filth. Strands of hair, varying in length and color, adorned every possible surface - the bed, bedsheets, pillows, towels, and the very floor we had to tread upon. An appalling 3 out of 4 towels were visibly soiled, bearing disgusting stains, including bloodstains. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, but not just any smoke – it was the unmistakable stench of old, cold, and stale cigarette smoke, as if generations of chain-smokers had made this room their haven. We promptly went to the reception to complain about the abhorrent cleanliness and the overwhelming smell. Stavroula assured us that she would contact the manager and promptly left us hanging in the room for an excruciating 45 minutes without a single update or phone call, despite the presence of a phone in the room. Frustrated and desperate for answers, we headed back to the reception to inquire about the status. It was then that we were told the cleaning lady was "on the way." An entire hour passed before the cleaning lady reluctantly arrived around 6:00 PM. Throughout her reluctant efforts to clean the room, she muttered explicit swear words and other curses, as overheard by my partner. Despite the cleaning attempt, the room still reeked of cigarette smoke. The only remedy offered was a feeble attempt involving toilet spray, which did nothing to alleviate the suffocating odor. To add insult to injury, we discovered more stray hairs on the floor. Fed up with the appalling conditions, we returned to the reception once again to voice our dissatisfaction. Shockingly, the receptionist flat-out refused to change our room, citing that all rooms in our category were occupied. In a display of sheer audacity, they proposed an "upgrade" to a "higher category room" for an exorbitant additional cost of 100€. This was utterly unreasonable for a single night, especially considering that the other room would not have been sold for the night anyways. Our sole desire was a decent night's sleep in a clean, smoke-free environment, but the receptionist made it clear that they had no intention of offering such basic
