Berkshire Arms by Chef & Brewer Collection

So, this place has some really motivated and helpful staff. Food was good enough and rooms clean and bed comfy. 2 big let downs, one really worrying as it affects the safe egress of the building in event of fire - Firstly - I stayed there to sleep. Room 14 was allocated to me and the heating pipes banged and bumped there way through their cycle until midnight. Then off again at 6am... Just not on. I had a fitful night sleep and raised it with the lady on duty this morning at reception. I await to hear from the business. Second issue is a more serious one and has clearly been ignored either through laziness or ignorance since the post Xmas decoration take down. The fire escape next to my room on the main corridor has an overflowing ash tray outside it and, couldn't believe this one, a discarded Xmas tree next to it. Anyone who knows anything about ac celebrants will tell you that a Xmas tree burns as fiercely as most petroleum products. Picture below. I did not raise this with the lady on reception as clearly the Manger / Safety team must be aware as its now July and shows a disregard of duty..... I now wait to hear from the COO / H & S rep at Greene King on the resolution and follow top action / training.

Misleading information on the website led to us missing breakfast by 10 minutes. Staff made no attempt or offer to compromise - despite the fact that we’d paid for the meal - and when I pointed out the misleading information (“Start your day with a delicious pub breakfast - available every 09:00 until 11:15”) and asked why this didn’t apply to residents cost weren’t allowed breakfast after 10:00 - they made no apology and neither offered to resolve the problem or suggested anything to help. Rest assured we won’t be staying there again!!

We used this hotel as a base whilst we were down in Newbury, seeing family for the weekend. We were staying in the annex. The room itself was stunning for the price! Nicely decorated and stylish - with a lovely assortment of teas & coffees available. Parking was plentiful ( enough so that we could park right outside our building). We stayed for breakfast the morning we left and the food was cooked to perfection! The young lad on service was really welcoming too and had an amazing sense of humour! Despite being an amazing place, there was one massive let down... because we were only there for 1 night it didn't impact us too much but the shower was awful.. it had hot water for all of 1 minute before running cold. If you are staying here for a short visit - 100% recommend... for any longer? I'm not sure.

I took my family to visit the pleasure parks at Thorpe Park and Chessington and coming from Somerset, thought it would be too much to travrl both ways in the day. So having booked rooms to cater for my daughters and grsndchildren etc, we relaxed knowing we could have a full day in the parks. We were later than planned arriving for our dinner reservation but Tom and the team of Luke, Emma and Emily put us at ease and looked after our tired little ones very well. The evening meal for us all was very good and nice options for the children noted. Our rooms were very well appointed with lovely decor, beds and furnishings to a 4* standard. Great showers etc The breakfast was great and nicely served with possibly the best breakfast coffee ever. We are in the area again in February and we have already booked some rooms again inc extended family and look forward to the venue again.

the food was ok-ish, but as the menu is too small a print for bad eyesight, we couldn't see the steak came with garlic butter on it. had to send back as garlic makes me unwell then sent with a salad on it covered in some awful sauce. these things should be served in a seperate pot, like other restaurants, and even lowly pubs do. steak was well done as asked but dry, i can do better. the steak and ale pie was stodgy and all pastry no filling. drink, order a 'short' drink, not a shot of vodka in a tall fizzy drink glass filled to the top with cola. suggest bar staff taught how to do a 'short' properly, i.e. small glass, shot and a splash or two of preferred mixer!

When arriving unlike a well known chain begins with P the booking was as my company had booked and correct I was greeted by a pleasant receptionist she made sure my meal was brought poked as paid for by my company room was of a very high standard The food in the bar adjoining was very good and to a very high quality The service was excellent in all areas A good place to stay

An overnight stay. A nice large, clean and comfy room with a calming decor. Lovely selection of teas, coffee and biscuits in the room. An excellent variety on the breakfast menu, at a reasonable price and very tasty. Welcoming and friendly staff. We will definitely be staying here again.

I visited the Newbury area to meet up with an old friend. We are both unfamiliar with the area. However, we decided to visit the Berkshire Arms, Chef & Brewer Hotel. We were greeted by a very Nice gentleman who accommodated us a table in the restaurant area. We were then welcomed by our waitress, Monica, who Took our drink order and recommended some dishes from the menu. On her recommendation, we both had a lovely meal. Berkshire Arms was a very welcoming experience, and we will definitely be returning back in the very near future ….

Lovely roast dinner. Portions were really good making it great value for money. Love the relaxing atmosphere of this place. We were shown to our table by Wayne who was really friendly and made us feel so welcome. Thanks to our server James as well. Made a great Easter Sunday
