Hotel Astoria

Three Star but deserves more! From the moment of arrival to the final departure, all the staff were helpful, pleasant and efficient, the rooms and public spaces were clean and well cared for. In my experience all hotels have something that needs to be cleaned or painted or repaired but not with Hotel Astoria. Everything was perfect from the beginning. Breakfast was excellent and the coffee wonderful. The location is a 10 minute walk from the old town centre but the walk is well worth the effort. I can find no fault at all with this hotel and if I were to give stars I would award Hotel Astoria a 3.99 Star Rating. (Without Spa and Pool it cannot gain 4 but all so close!)

In reality, I would score it with 3.5 out of 5. We chose this hotel because we were looking for a relatively cheap place to stay in Ravenna for a couple of nights before taking a cruise. As you can imagine, prices for that cruise weekend were high. The hotel is modern and clean. Looks more like an apartment building than a hotel, but it definitely does the job. Rooms are clean and bright with a relatively large bathroom and a very comfortable bed. The staff was very friendly. It is not in the city centre of Ravenna but just 15 minutes of walking distance. The train station is very close though. So overall, a good experience. Very practical hotel but of course not a place with character, nor charm.

When I checked out, I alerted a male not to check anyone into our room since there are ants all over the bed and ants on the floor. He simply said “OK”. No apology or regret or any other comment. We spent our last half hour in the reception not wanting our belongings to be covered in ants. Since I did not see him move from the desk or call anyone about the room I asked him about this. He said he did check the room and saw nothing. When I told him I have pictures and two ants had just crawled off me onto the sofa, he said “What do you expect, its summer”. We arrived around 3:30 pm the day before, left our case in the room and immediately went sight seeing and didn’t return until after dinner so we used the room for sleep only. In retrospect, I should have suspected something was wrong as there was an odd sweet smell in the room, probably bug killer, but we were pretty tired and went straight to sleep hoping it was just disinfectant. Bottom line, the room should never have been offered to us so soon after treatment. The room is smaller than a cabin on a ship, the tiny shower is nevertheless slippery. The mattress is the type you get with a sofa bed. The hotel otherwise seems clean. The room has a balcony but there is no access or furniture and the view is restricted. It is a 10 walk to the station. The hotel gave vague and incorrect information about public transportation. The #3 bus runs half-hourly from the train station for 1.5 euros although there are an additional 2 buses you can take that stop close by. She offered a bus to the cruise port for 20 euros. #90 bus runs from the train station and costs a mere 2.50 euros to the port. Once at the port you must walk about 5 minutes or so to the ship. The walk to the train station, can be done with a suitcase but may not be ideal, depends on your standards. We took the bus.

Dishonest staff . Made a genuine mistake a month out of our booking , booked wrong month. Even though we stayed the night we thought we had booked they would not refund our booking mistake . Then to top it off cancelled our booking from their end a week ago with no refund . Hence not able to review through booking site . So payed double for our stay not nice

The hotel is clean, everythiong works, the receptionists are charming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast is excellent. There is only one drawback: we were given a room on the main street, which is very nosiy with traffic. The only option is to keep the windows shut all night, and even that doesn't ehlp much. A pity: in every other respect it is a good place with nice people.

We had a lovely 2 night stay here in late September prior to our Cruise from Ravenna.  The hotel was walkable from the train station and to all the major sites and mosaics. All the staff were lovely and kind and most spoke or understood english. The room was modern, clean, very quiet and on the ground floor.  Breakfast was continental and there was a good selection of meat, cheese, fruit, cereals, breads and pastry cakes.  Along with the usual coffee, tea, water and fruit juices.  Something for everyone. We used the left luggage facility on our last morning as we walked around the city prior to our cruise pick up which arrived 15 minutes early. There is a lovely fresh made pizza place a minutes walk away as this hotel only serves breakfast.  There is a bar but we were too tired to use it. We will definitely stay here again pre cruise as it is quiet but very convenient.
