Plaza Grande Hotel

Stayed two nights. Really enjoyed the view and décor of the spacious room. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Ate at the restaurant for both a dinner and breakfast. Lots of options for traditional Ecuadorian cuisine plus a few international dishes. Location in independence square was perfect for sightseeing. Very easy to walk to the new metro station. Would definitely stay there again when visiting Quito.

I cannot say enough about this hotel. There is impeccable attention to detail, questions and help anre eagerly responded to; (incredible service all round), extremely accommodating and friendly. The building is kept immaculate. The food is so fresh and delicious and there is plenty of it with unlimited choices in the breakfast menu. The best chicken soup I’ve ever had!

We arrived Quito from Bogota midnight, and late arrival to hotel, friendly night manager and the sensible bellboy were onduty and welcomed us warmly. The next morning, they prepared lunch boxes for us, knowing that we would not have time to eat breakfast before the day trip to Las Lajas, Colombia. It is rare to find such a thoughtful hotel in South America. I sincerely thank their professinalism, Jocelyn and Vinicio.

Had a beautiful room with great views of the surrounding square. The room is large and well appointed. I found the staff to be incredibly helpful throughout my stay. They greeted me with a delightful drink and there was a small selection of sweets in my room (in a cacao pod remnant-nice touch) along with a bottle of wine provided gratis. The included breakfast is not a typical buffet but rather eggs to order along with fruits and breads provided as part of the meal. Very enjoyable. I also had a regular meal in their restaurant-the menu has a mix of traditional Ecuadorean foods and also some international options. This was one of the finest hotels I stayed at while in Ecuador (Cuenca and Quito). Thank you to all the staff who made my stay memorable.

John was our server at the restaurant and was incredible. He was very attentive and on top of that, the food was delicious! We ordered so much food and made a complete mess and John was so nice to give us a fresh setup for each course.We’ll be back again!

Wonderful hotel. Location can’t be beat in the center of Old Town Quito. I am not posting any pictures as the ones on TripAdvisor pretty accurately reflect what the rooms look like. The style is very old time colonial, if you like this kind of thing, which I think is not a minus and is in line with the hotel’s surroundings. Bathroom fixtures are not top of the line but are better than what you would get in the US in a hotel of the same price point. Bathroom decor is somewhat dated but how much time do you spend in the bathroom anyway? Despite its grand name, the hotel is quite small: I figure there is only about twenty guest rooms here, and when I stayed here for two nights I only saw two more guests, so it’s very quiet. And, by the way, you do not here any outside noise either. A few very minor points you should be aware of: 1. The A/C does not work that great, I tried to set it to 17 C but I don’t believe the temperature ever got below 21-22 C. I can’t say the A/C doesn’t work at all, it just doesn’t work very well 2. The blackout shades don’t make your room completely dark— they darken your room significantly but not totally. My room faced the very brightly lit Calle Garcia Moreno, so that may have played a role, but still… I was still able to fall asleep, so I am not complaining, but think you should be aware 3. The hotel is in a pedestrian zone, so taxis and Ubers don’t drive up directly to the main (and I believe only) entrance, so the doorman will have to carry/roll your luggage about half a block on the cobblestone street to the door. I didn’t find it to be a problem, but again, think you should be aware Where the hotel more than makes up for the above (barely) shortcomings, is service. Everybody here is super friendly and obliging. They go out of their way to make your stay comfortable, pleasant and safe. Everyone at reception, door staff, waiters always have a smile on their face, are very personable and deferential without being subservient. Whatever help we asked for, we got, and they seemed to be happy to oblige. Big thanks to everyone at Hotel Plaza Grande!

I have traveled all over the world and this was one of the best experiences I have ever had at any hotel. The room was luxury and the hotel staff was absolutely amazing. The hotel restaurant has top quality food amd wine and the location cannot be beat. Exceptional experience all around!
