Ashamedly, this is a well overdue review. (Reason being that the site I originally booked through used the booking name on the review and therefore I had to sadly delete the review because I could not change it.) An incredibly enjoyable boutique hotel. Highly recommend booking the Superior Room with the Sea View and Hot Tub. The ocean views were unobstructed. To our absolute delight, the hot tub was ready to go when we arrived. (Noticeable to us because the accommodation we came from had a hot tub and sadly it was not ready to go.) For a small hotel, it packed an absolute punch. From what we garnered the family has a hotelier history despite their personally casual (observation, not a criticism) presentation. Both they and their staff truly understand what hospitality means. Check-in had a small wait, but was easy from there on in. From the call to check with us regarding the room, to the quality of food and service at the restaurant downstairs. For such a small size, I honestly was not expecting the level of food offering from available fresh fish and meat dishes and the absolutely surprise of a group of women (obviously regulars who arrived dressed to the nines and ordered burgers… I kid you not). Deep Blu were kind enough to hold our luggage when we went exploring the next day after check-out. The room itself was small, but highly functional with absolutely everything one would expect. On my travels through Europe over February/March, it was first stay that actually had small face towels. The hotel room design obviously had a lot of forethought with block out blinds to an internal shower that had a glass wall to let the light through, but a privacy blind if needed. The location of the hotel in Żurreiq was also a surprise (obviously first time visitor to Malta). Near the Blue Grotto and being on the outside of fully blown tourist season, this tiny neighbourhood pocket has a large car park for the tourist buses, which we were generally spared. 11/10. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. Lastly, cleaning was second-to-none. The room was spotless and from the street view we could see the cleaning staff, cleaning the glass balustrade. Personally, I find these details impressive. Facing the ocean, glass quickly stains tends to look aged/unkept/terrible over time, so that maintenance will go a long way in the presentation of hotel over time. Side notes: If you’re heading to the blue grotto, not all days are suitable to visit by the small boats. We sadly missed the day before, arriving late in the afternoon/evening and the next day the water was too rough. (Also beware the waves at the water’s edge, it’s easy to get wet!) Also, when we first arrived, we were confused about the entrance to the hotel. Luckily our taxi driver was kind enough to drive around until we figured it out. The entrance is more to the rear of the building as opposed to where the restaurant is on the ground floor opening onto the street on the other side.
