L'Ancienne Auberge

I was fortunate to stumble across this little gem of a place. It's in a small walled town above a farm valley. Built in the early 1600's, the town was charming. Very nice couple, Greg and Shofie run the place. Be sure to get the half board and be treated with great French country cuisine. Our room had commanding views across tiled rooftops and the valley below.

This was a very charming hotel. The staff was very friendly. The bed was very comfortable. We greatly enjoyed our stay and the village. I feel like this is a special place and it was a special experience. However things to be aware of there is not air conditioning. We opened a window and with the ceiling fan found the temperature to be pretty comfortable. There is a clock tower right outside the hotel. They ring the bell once for every hour and then again 1 minute later so at midnight the bell rings 24 times. It also rings once on the half hour. If you are a light sleeper and your windows are open this could be a problem. I am a heavy sleeper it didn't bother me much. My husband ended up using his noise canceling head phones. There is a blow dryer but it was so weak I didn't even try to use it. Last note this isn't about the hotel per se the village is small there are only a couple restaurants. Dinner reservations should be made in advance.

It was purely by chance that I came across and booked L’Ancienne Auberge while looking for somewhere to stay near Albi. I have to say that we struck pure gold. The hotel is in a stunning walled village with outstanding views. Greg and Sophie who run it are a delight. Nothing was too much trouble. We arrived at 9pm and Greg had said that he would give us something simple to eat on arrival. This meant a two course meal! I recommend that you eat in the hotel in the evenings. The food is all home cooked and very good. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The village is rated as one of the most beautiful in France which it certainly is. Easy to walk around, amazing views, pretty good parking even if you have to walk a little way sometimes. We had the most marvellous three days there and would recommend the Auberge and Puycelsi without hesitation. Merci Greg et Sophie

Nous avons adoré cet hôtel, situé dans un très joli village. L'accueil de Greg et Sophie est très chaleureux, ils sont d'une gentillesse incroyable et leur cuisine est délicieuse. Notre chambre était également très confortable et très propre.

Nous avions repéré L’Ancienne Auberge lors d’une promenade dans le village et souhaitions y réserver une nuit, séduits par le cadre et les bonnes critiques. Malheureusement, l’accueil sur place nous a clairement dissuadés. Dès notre arrivée, nous avons été reçus de manière froide et peu aimable, avec l’impression de déranger. Aucune chaleur, aucun effort pour nous renseigner ou simplement nous accueillir correctement. Ce manque de considération nous a fait rebrousser chemin et nous sommes allé dans un autre endroit. C’est dommage, car le lieu semblait enchanteur pour passer quelques nuits, mais lorsqu’on choisit un endroit, le premier contact compte autant que ce qu’il y a dans l’assiette ou le cadre. Nous avons préféré aller manger ailleurs, où l’accueil fut à la hauteur (le cabanon sauvage et le Jardin des lys) et trouver un gîte.

Les prix sont chers pour le service et accueil moins bon. On a préféré l'autre restaurant à Puycelci, surtout les enfants.
