Puerto Azul Hotel & Marina

The view is the street. The building is falling apart, hasn't have a paint job in years. The place is dirty. Very little staff. The owners definitely forgot to pay attention to detail, they just don't care. Food is alright but expensive, between 16-20 dollars a meal.

We are very happy with the hotel and it manager!! We enjoyed the food, the employees and the pool was very refreshing , We are thinking in visit again for our other daughter' birthday and invite more people for do a mini pool party! That was a really good experience!!!

To start, the reception was hostile. A man who called himself the manager (I found out later he was not the manager or a manager), named BP was absolutely hostile since the moment we arrived. Due to his behavior we asked to cancel reservations, but he refused to do it. We stayed because the apartment was nice. A couple of hours later, there was a car accident that left the hotel without electricity. After getting hostile answers from BP, we were given another room for the night because we couldn’t go to our apartment due to lack of electricity. The hotel did not have any emergency plan to deal with the blackout. No one had flashlights, and even they had two generators, they had no fuel to run it. BP said the electricity was coming back after 9 PM. We decided to go out to dinner. When we came back to the hotel not only the hotel still didn’t have electricity but the room given to us was taken away and was given to other people. At that moment BP was less than helpful trying to find us another room in the hotel or another hotel for the night. It’s now 11 pm and we don’t have a room in the hotel we had paid and BP was doing absolutely nothing to help. We tried finding other hotels via internet but they all appeared full. Close to midnight, after yelling at BP, he made one phone call and found a hotel room for us in a different hotel 10 kilometers away from the original hotel. Of course, BP said that we had to pay for the other hotel. The horrible experience ended past midnight at another hotel. We returned to the hotel and the rest of the workers were terrific, in particular the restaurant staff and room service. Unfortunately the saga didn’t end. In the 7 days in the hotel, the elevators have broke down three times, bathrooms in public areas were out of service or with no lights, and basic breakfast items such as honey for pancakes, were not available because they didn’t buy enough (according to the explanation given). It’s unfortunate that one person, BP, can ruin a complete vacation. Unfortunately he continued to be hostile to us and my invited guests. He never apologized for his behavior. Not sure I would go back.

The rooms definitely need to be updated as well as the pool. The rooms had the worst pillows I have ever had in the air conditioner was not working. Or at least it wasn’t working enough to cool the whole room. I liked that the room was very spacious, and that bed was also very spacious. This hotel is two stars at best. The bartenders were incredibly rude. It seemed like they could not handle the amount of people, and therefore were in a bad mood. Which is really not our fault.

First the good part: Cindy, a member of the wait staff (at breakfast time) in the restaurant was attentive, professional, friendly, and a joy to know. That's the end of the good. Everything else was bad. We were a late arrival (11:30PM). We tried to call ahead of time (before 5PM), but no one answered the phone. When we arrived, at a non-manned reinforced gate with absolutely no signage or identification that we had even found the right place, we pressed the button at the entrance, and it was answered with chaotic background noise and speaking; no one even addressing us (in any language). After 2-3 minutes, we were about to leave, when the gate opened, and a security guard appeared. She presented us with the room key, and directed us to our room. So now the condition of the room: One of the two bathrooms had no soap, and did not smell clean. In the other, the sink didn't drain, the shower didn't drain, and the toilet ran until you manually lifted the handle. There was one bath towel provided, no hand towels, no wash cloths, and no floor mat towel. No one was in the office, so there was no one to call for the issues to be addressed (and perhaps move us to a more presentable and functional room). Apparently there was supposed to be a welcome card with this information, but there wasn't one. The room was hot, and the air conditioner was weak enough that it didn't get cool for more than an hour - well after we went to bed. Management offered no accountability and no compensation. In fact, their first reaction was a combination of excuses and blaming us for arriving late. After several minutes, we were given a half-hearted apology for the inconvenience, but still no compensation for the bad experience. In short, this was by far the worst experience of our trip of multiple hotels, inns, and lodges. I can safely say that if the price of staying here had been zero, I would still pay to stay somewhere else. Save your money, time, and sanity, and stay elsewhere.

The apartments are nice with a very nice view. Lack of a few essential appliances. The food at breakfast not so good. The A/C is good and the WiFi works well. One elevator was out of service but was not an issue. Chek in hour was modified but they sort it out letting us stay a little longer at check out.

Stayed a Puerto Azul for one night prior to embarking on a cruise. Fortunately it was just for one night and we could tolerate the short comings of the hotel. This may have been a nice hotel at one point, but it is in dire need of upgrades. The bathroom was sad- tap did not produce hot water, shower head need replacement. The room was on the main floor and only had a window blind which only partially closed. The bed was not comfortable. The pool attendant seemed to be fighting a losing battle with the conditions of the pool. Breakfast is included and was okay (at best). Best part of the visit was the waiter/bartender who seemed to be the only one working hard. As i stated, it was tolerable for one night as we awaited the cruise, but I would be extremely disappointed if we needed to stay longer.

This hotel is nasty and falling apart. Our first room had a dirty stained couch. I think it overflowed a coffee pot that is rusted out, a broken microwave door and not so functioning refrigerator among other issues. The staff switch rooms for us so we go onto the next unit and the AC does not work in the living room. Water is dripping from the ceiling next to the AC in the living room onto the couch below it, the kitchen sink leaks water from where it is attached, the coffee pot here also is rusted there’s mold growing on the shower walls and floor. Basically my daughters and I were trying to figure out that this used to be a condo association in the Hué is now bankrupt? Outside the hotel the interior walls are dirty only one elevator works. You can see where water is beginning to leak through the ceiling in some parts of the hotel even reception had missing pieces of tile , the restaurant is a sad little dark corner with plastic tables. The only thing that match the pictures that I could tell was the pool the bedrooms were at least clean and the AC works in each room. They only give you three towels no wash clothes no small hand towels. I mean if you’re desperate, I need to get on that ferry. I guess this is where you stay but you might want to stop along the way and get some shampoo and some towels and be prepared for a not so pretty experience that definitely does not match the photos.

The hotel have decreased its quality, specially the menu offer and the balance price/quantity/quality. The old personnel with carisma & mystique keep the esence of the hotel. I hope the administration change the way the hotel is managed to back to the real roots of the hotel. If the old personnel quit the hotel and the real spirit of it will lost for ever.
