Hotel Marquesa

Best described as quaint or old fashioned. It really is worse than I could have Imagined. I booked with TUI UK via Manchester, currently the worst airport in the UK. I was dropped off by the coach about 1/2 mile away from the hotel. I was the only one going there! The TV in my room did not have a single TV or radio station in English! No TUI rep at the hotel either. Food was not good, mainly cold and generally unlike other Spanish hotels I have been to. They advertise WiFi throughout the hotel, they forgot to say except for my room! So I had to use my data allowance. I took a few pics of a religious parade tonight and when I got back to the hotel I tried to upload them. The hotel WiFi wouldn't connect, it had done previously. I took my phone to reception and she couldn't connect it, even after I had restarted it. She said she would report it tomorrow, along with the TV to get some English TV chanels. I have been here for about 24 hours! I hate to think of another two weeks of this!

I won't bother wasting my time writing a review of this hotel because the Manager attempts to justify the unjustifiable! They CANNOT justify the photos I'm about to post. The only thing I WILL say about the hotel is that the staff don't want to engage with (UK?) clientele ~ to the point that when they saw us coming, they were awful busy with the computer screen suddenly! Every time we passed reception, we said hello. Every time, we were simply ignored. If you like a cheap and cheerful break ~ stay away. The staff are NOT friendly or cheerful. If you want cleanliness ~ stay away (evidence in photos). If you don't want to be surrounded by "BRITS GO HOME" posters, don't go to this part of the island. If you have any mobility issues do NOT go here!! It's very hilly with steep steps too.

Old charm, great value, spot on location. Cannot fault for value, OK, some negatives but, on the whole, these were outweighed by the positives. We would recommend and stay again. - Yes, the room is very dated, no working air-con, stifling hot at times (but ours was at the front, in full sun), lumpy pillows. Breakfast buffet mixed, but again, for the price, good value. We stuck to the hot eggs and bread or cheese and pastries. + Location was perfect! Just off the main road, so easy to walk from the coach drop off, but in the pedestrianised old town. Stunning views of the church, square, town and Teide from our balcony. The restaurant terrace is a great spot for people watching and listening to some of the very talented buskers playing on the steps opposite. Bar prices were reasonable too. The old part of the hotel is beautiful, make sure you pop upstairs and see the rooms at the front and the old photos around the balcony! The roof terrace pool area was an oasis of cool and quiet, again with great views. Please don't be put off by the bad reviews, go with an open mind and realistic expectations for what you are paying. This is a hotel for 'travellers' who want to experience the old town charms and be within easy walking of a plethora of great restaurants and bars. Not for holidaymakers who want to sit around the pool and be 'entertained' all day. We travelled with Easyjet holidays and this was the cheapest option on offer in Tenerife, you really would not be able to stay for 3 nights in the UK for the price of a week here and we are so glad we were not staying in some high rise, charecterless 'resort'.

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to all amenities and a 15 minute walk from the station if you are using the bus. Although the reception /main areas are traditionally Canarian the rooms do not reflect this. We occupied room 504 which had a good sized terrace with side views of both the sea and the church. The room itself was a good size, but with a mish mash of furniture, some old and some new which isn't very aesthetically pleasing. The central pillar was a tad annoying, especially at night when accessing the bathroom. However, the beds were very comfortable but the one pillow provided was quite frankly woeful. The bathroom was well equipped with a powerful shower and toiletries were provided. Breakfast offered a good selection of cereals, pastries, bread, fruit, yogurt, meats and cheeses, as well as some cooked items. Unfortunately the juice and coffee were undrinkable. I appreciate that beverages from machines can be very hit and miss but these were quite honestly the worst I've ever tasted. Even the Americano had no depth of flavour, which was very disappointing as coffee is for me and essential component of my breakfast.

Our second visit to this hotel and still worth every penny. Our room had a balcony that looked out over the square and the church and was clean and very comfortable. Cleaners were in every day. The rooftop pool although very cold was immaculate and there were plenty of sun loungers. It was a bit strange to find that the loungers had the backs screwed in place so you could not adjust the position, which was not the most comfortable for reading. Breakfast was the usual Spanish affair, no better and no worse, and still good value. There have been some reviews on here about the staff, We had no issues and all were very friendly and accommodating. I do find that if you treat people with respect they will help you as much as they can. Some rooms were being updated and there was a little noise every now and then, but as Tenerife doesn't have a closed season these works have to be done sometime. The hotel is perfectly placed to take advantage of the main square and surrounding areas and the bar terrace area is great for people watching and listening to the many street artists who turn up to play music. All in all a very pleasant stay at a good quality hotel for the price. We will return.

Really liked this hotel, comfy beds, nice room, (although the air con could do with a tweak) but it was hot weather . The view from the balcony overlooking the church and square was so nice, and the vista beyond was pretty impressive ,also,the bells were great, didn't bother us at all. Staff were really nice,had a warm welcome despite it being a 3 am arrival. Have booked the Marquesa to return in March 2025, was our first time visiting Puerto de la Cruz and already looking forward to return.
