Our visit began with the enthusiastic greetings of the four-legged property dwellers, Sizu, Ollie, and Max and accompanied by their human host, Franco. Although our Italian language abilities were extremely limited, Franco, eagerly provided a tour of the property and introduced us to the nonhuman inhabitants. Hostess Lucrezia, arrived later to welcome us and take care of business. Our mornings started with farm fresh eggs, pastries, homemade jams, fresh ricotta, local honey, and local-grown/pressed olive oil. The weather wasn't accommodating for pool or outdoor activities, but our purpose was to explore the nearby community of Piana degli Albanesi, the birth home of my grandparents, and also to visit the Greek ruins in Agrigento (about a 2 hour drive to the south coast of Sicily). Al Poggetto was a quiet and perfect countryside setting where we could wind down after daily excursions. Locally produced, farm fresh foods and wine were part of our meal the evening we dined in the hotel restaurant. A delightful place to stay and one day I hope to return and further my family of origin explorations.
