The Kings Arms

Our stay was as expected. The accommodation was clean, tidy and well laid out. There was a kettle in the room and plenty of milk, Tea and coffee. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My only criticism is the lack of communication from the accommodation. I had phoned and left a message on the answerphone regarding a stay but I received no reply. I therefore phoned and spoke to a member of staff who booked our stay, took my card details and told me a confirmation email would be sent. I nevet received it. I then emailed again and asked for confirmation, I never received it.! I was e,expecting to turn up yo find we didn't have booking. I don't like that!

Went in for a meal, Saturday evening about 19.30. The menu is very limited and unappealing. Ordered a chicken dish and were told there was a 45 minute wait for food, as we didn't have a lot of time to spend there, we ordered chips and onion rings, which were served quickly. We had about 10 chips for 4.50 and 6 onion rings, also 4.50. Very overpriced. Only about 6 tables eating in the restaurant and because the menu is so limited, cannot understand the long wait.

Have visited in the past and loved it. However this visit was not so good. We decided on the conservatory as it was windy. We waited a very long time for both drinks and food. Food was ok but choice limited (we had a fantastic ploughman’s here in the past but nothing like it was on offer today), and seemed expensive for what it was. I chose pork schnitzel which was ok, but the sauce was split so didn’t look very appetising. Part way through the meal the gardener started cutting down a hedge near the door with a mechanical cutter. To say the noise was horrendous would not be overplaying it. The noise reverberated in the conservatory like we were in a tin can. We were about to complain about the noise when another diner beat us to it. The server closed the door but it only reduced the noise a bit. I very rarely get headaches but was left with a real banger and ringing in my ears for some time. We would have liked to try a dessert and coffee but couldn’t get out quickly enough. To top it off when walking down the path the gardener had left one of his hedge trimmers sticking out of his wheelbarrow and I narrowly avoided walking into it. This had been one of our favourite pubs on the Jurassic coast, but sadly feel like we shall have to find a new one.

Had a great weekend at the Kings Arms in Portesham Dorset. It situated ideally for visiting local interests. Room was very comfortable and clean throughout. Restaurant was very good with reasonable priced meals and good choice of real ales. Will definitely visit again

The room was cold, unaired and stank of mould, the heating was off and despite several requests stayed off. Black mould all over the bathroom. No response from the manager, but an offer of a room miles away and 25% refund The ceiling was washed, and then painted, black mould in the shower remained. Now the room stank of paint aswell as mould and window was left open, with heating off. Patchy wifi turned off when the staff left. A promised 25% refund was a. insufficient and b. not refunded

We had a lovely evening meal in this cosy pub. The food was delicious but what made the evening stand out was the warm welcome and enthusiasm of the landlord, absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Friendly local pubs like these are getting harder and harder to find so if you’re in the area please pop along and support them. You won’t be disappointed.

Called in into for lunch about 12.30 we both had ham egg chips it sounded lovely on the menu but when it came out you had a few chips two eggs and two small pieces of ham.don’t get me wrong it was nice but at £14.95 each it is well we’ll overpriced for what you got.one good thing the staff were very friendly

It’s a very friendly pub and a delight to visit. Food and bar staff were excellent. Very dog friendly. Located in the heart of the village with a large, well kept garden (with a stream). They have events from time to time and live music on occasion.

Called in for lunch today and two of our party are vegetarians. Took a look at the strange menu to find they only have a halloumi burger as the vegetarian option. The rest of the menu was quite expensive and they didn’t offer lunchtime sandwiches or jackets. So the two vegetarians had to have ham egg and chips without the ham ( but they did get an extra egg) but at £14.99 very overpriced. The two others had the same but with one smallish slice of ham. I regretfully ordered the fish and chips at £16.99 looked good on arrival but batter shattered soon as my fork touched it, to discover one very thin small grey piece of fish, certainly not cod or haddock I would assume coley. I know it didn’t say cod but at that price you would expect a decent bit of fish. Can’t fault the staff as they were very friendly but shall not be going again.
