The Portage Resort

We went over for Sunday Lunch from Blenheim as the road had opened. Toilets were not clean and restaurant had dust on surfaces the floor needed a good vacuum. Flys liked the conservatory area. Meal was average. Service and staff welcoming and friendly. Gardens and lawn needed a good tidy up. Disappointing to travel for over an hour to get to a location that was worse than at home!

It was a very disappointing stay. For the amount of money we paid for one night, $500 for the room, and $160 for the dinner, it was not worth it at all!! The room we had was awful, it looked like a doc camp cabin. No aircon, no TV, no couch, no light in the shower , no headboard, 2 very uncomfortable chairs in our room. No light in the coffee making area. The dinner menu is only for fine dining and very expensive. They and awful screeching karaoke going on in the dining room, it was unbelievable. Please don't book at this place, it's a waste of money

Amazing resort with such serene vibes and the most stunning views. The staff are so friendly and helpful too. They helped me locate my bag which got transferred to Torea bay, which they want out of their way to do. I waited at the resort while they helped me out and got to enjoy a break with the most beautiful view. Wished I would stayed here longer instead of Cowshed bay 🙃 Highly recommend!!

Visited here last weekend for our wedding anniversary. Absolutely fantastic. The personalised service we received was amazing. Super friendly and very welcoming right from picking us up at the wharf and driving us to the resort until delivering us back there two days later. Food was divine! Not a large menu - but what was large was the serving sizes. Every meal we had was delicious - compliments to the chef/kitchen staff. As Mother Nature was kind to us, we enjoyed stunning views, use of resort kayaks and overall an awesome time. Highly recommend. Top marks from us and would love to visit again. Thanks again to the wonderful team.

We were unsure what to expect after reading some mixed reviews, but come on people...this is paradise!! All the staff from maintenance/grounds to housekeeping,FOH, bar and waiting staff were just lovely. We appreciated having a little fridge and coffee machine in our room (Tui Terraces) and there was heaps of hot water at good pressure in the shower. A nice deep balcony meant you could be in the sun or the shade. The restaurant was fine (mussels in cream sauce were REALLY good). Prices were what you should expect for the location. Did some walks and took a double kayak to The Gap. No problems there either. Even had a float plane come in near us, and that's something you don't see every day. Loved our 2 nights at The Portage thanks!

This was the last night on the queen charlotte walk and I was keen to see what this hotel would be like compared to Furneaux and Punga. The hotel itself was pretty nice , quite big compared to the others but my room was nice. The shower was really hopeless in terms of water pressure but it was clean. Staff were friendly enough - all these hotels are full of backpackers working so friendly but not polished. My walking friends and I all complained about the cost and quality of our walkers lunches - at $29 they were all appalling and so we talked at length at checkin and agreed we did not want salami. The beach is pretty awful here and certainly not somewhere I wanted to swim but there was a pool. Mince on toast for breakfast was lovely and off we went. Sandwiches all had salami and were awful and went in the bin. I actually wrote to the hotel to complain as I was fed up with spending that money and throwing food out. They apologised but no refund. The walkers lunches are a real failure of the walk.
