The Fox and Owl Inn

The Fox and Owl Inn is quaint, extremely well run, and very comfortable. It is also conveniently located in the general Port Jefferson area. The well-preserved Ninteenth Century building adds to the charm. My wife and I stayed at the Inn over a Fall weekend and heartily recommend it.

The hosts are very accommodating. Ask, and they will do their best to help out. We brought a concern to their attention and they immediately remedied the problem. They were very willing to talk about the area and make recommendations. It is a less than 10 minute easy walk to town. Parking in town is a bear, so walk! The breakfast may not be made to order, but you certainly don't need to take an uber to town to have breakfast as one reviewer said they did. Juice, coffee, tea, fruit, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, English muffins, pastry, yogurt, jams and more. Saturday night there was a lot of road noise. We learned our lesson and used the provided sound machine the next three nights and we didn't notice the road noise as much. Our bathroom was on the other side of the common area. If you are shy, stay in one of the rooms with a private bath. We got lucky in that the other people staying in the inn never left their room. And for two nights, we were the only guests. We never saw any other guests. The yard is not well-kept. Don't let that stop you from staying here as the interior of the house is old, but well maintained. We had no safety concerns walking home from the downtown area after dark.

This was our 2nd time staying at the Fox and Owl Inn. Rebecca and Andrew are lovely innkeepers, very welcoming and helpful. The building is old but well maintained. The bedrooms are on the small side but more than adequate. Give it a try.
