Talbot House

A wonderful and unique guesthouse! It's not often you can sleep a night at a museum! Thankfully none of the WW1 relics woke up like in the movie. This is a special English oasis in the Flanders fields, well worth a visit.

Loved staying here. The guest house and museum are fabulous. It is worth noting that the rooms are not en-suite because the building is almost unchanged since WW1, but it’s not a long walk to the bathroom or the shower. breakfast was also brilliant. A really unique and interesting place to stay with huge amounts of history and lovely staff. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Hotel or museum? Its bedrooms in the old house are not sound proof in any way and doors slamming into the late evening with recorded historical voice tapes and a chess games room just outside the bedrooms stop you having a good nights sleep. In my opinion the old house should be maintained as just a museum and dining and kitchen area. It doesn't work as a museum and a hotel. The breakfasts were well presented and abundant in variety and the bread, cheeses and ham super fresh.

Talbot House has a history that is so important and our stay had extra meaning just for that reason. We really enjoyed chatting with other guests, too. The bathroom facilities were immaculate and the beds were very comfortable. It was truly like visiting a 'home'. I would recommend to everyone!

It is very quirky but you are stopping in an old property that is also a museum & totally unique

We found Talbot house very clean and the greeting warm. We were put in the accommodation block at the bottom of the garden which was comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. The continental breakfast was very well presented, good selection and plentiful. We had hoped to have stayed in the main building for the historical experience but going into the garden took away the reason why we had booked here. When booking I had not picked up on that we should have given 48 hours notice if an 'English breakfast' was required as the ingredients had to be sourced, bearing in mind there is a SPAR market 80 meters along the road. The guests ate their breakfast in the dining room as the 'Guardians' ate separately in the front parlour. We had been recommended to stay at TH by one of their Association members at a meeting of our local WFA who told of us of a guided tour of the building which was not offered. Having just gone through the TH website my wife could not find any mention of 48 hours notice for a cooked breakfast, just an extra charge of 10 Euros. This took away the whole ethos of the 'Every man's Club.
