Out of the Blue

I stayed at Out of the Blue Hostel and couldn’t be happier with my experience! The private rooms are incredible—beautifully kept, comfortable, and always fresh and clean. I especially loved taking advantage of the cute little reading nook during my downtime; it made the place feel even more special. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming, and I want to give a special shoutout to Jessica, who went above and beyond—she was incredibly kind, helpful, and made my stay even better. Honestly, my only complaint is that I didn’t stay longer. I can’t recommend this hostel enough and would absolutely stay here again!

The location is excellent — close to the city center and perfect for exploring Ponta Delgada. That said, the atmosphere inside the hostel was not what we expected from a hostel: instead of an open-minded and social vibe, we often felt watched rather than welcomed. At the large shared breakfast table, there was little interaction or effort to make space for others arriving. Strangely, in the evenings the garden turned into the terrace for the tapas bar next door — and suddenly there was a lively, open atmosphere. This made us think that the staff (or student holiday workers) simply don’t succeed in setting the right atmosphere/tone for hostel guests. Our room was small, and we couldn’t open the windows in the evening because of “termites,” which left the air feeling damp. The much-praised breakfast was fine, but not exceptional — and was simply placed in front of you without much engagement. Overall: great location, but indeed not the warm, social hostel experience we had hoped for based on the reviews we had seen.

Best hostel we’ve ever stayed in, gorgeous room, lovely food. Bed was so comfy and the shower is amazing. Services are outstanding and the staff are fantastic. The garden is such a nice place to chill out and unwind . Would 100% recommend and will definitely be back

This is a 4 Star stay. Location and amenities are all spot on specially breakfast & happy hour. The property is clean and the clientele youngish but friendly. Definitely helpful no and enthusiastic to get us what we wanted. Thank you to Fillipe and crew

I stayed at Out of the Blue for 2 nights in the 6 bed dorm, traveling with a friend. We had a lovely stay, and spent a lot of time in the lovely outdoor garden/bar/restaurant area which had excellent food (and was also where a 10/10 breakfast was served every morning). We also enjoyed the hostel-run tour that we went on to visit a tea plantation, hot springs, and a botanical garden (the tours are different every day, I wish I had time to do more of them). Everyone else at the hostel was very friendly and down-to-earth, both guests and staff, and even in our short time there we met a few people to hang out & explore the island with. If I am ever back in the Azores I will 100% stay here again, highly recommend! Also shoutout to Marc for the highly informative hostel tour when we first arrived, it really prepared us with everything we needed to know for the rest of our stay.

It was a perfect experience in this Hostel, delicious breakfast, very beautiful and clean (bath)rooms, amazing people - I was never alone but you can always find some quiet spots in the big garden. The integrated bar and restaurant made also the evenings perfect. Also in the kitchen you will find completely everything you need. The staff was always so helpful and were also joining the people staying there. Would definitely recommend this perfect hostel!
