The Plettenberg Hotel

Hotel is well placed on the bay with super views. We spotted dolphin on a coupe of occasions. Interiors were stunning with a light airy and high quality feel. Staff were attentive and friendly. However there were a few things that tainted what should be a 5 star experience. Staff never got breakfast right on 3 mornings we were there. They don't write the order down. So lottery as to what you actually get or when as had to chase delivery of toast, coffee etc. Even the ops manager got confused. Hotel is bottom of a steep hill so town center is reachable only by car for eating or shopping. They leave empty room doors open on our floor for some reason which slam shut in the wind. Happened each of the 3 days we were there. Properly makes you jump !!. We had an end floor room which was small for the price but at least had a partial sea view. I think the rooms on other side of hotel overlooking the car park would not be so nice. Overall a nice stay. Bit of polish it would have been great

We returned to the Plettenberg this year and have not been disappointed. The hotel and staff are just as wonderful as they were last year and you never want to leave. The rooms are stunning, pure luxury and comfort. The food is delicious and ALL the staff are outstanding. I had an amazing massage which was so relaxing. Will I come back? You bet in a flash !

Elegant and Wonderful service and food , which we couldn’t fault and a definite must do when you’re visiting Plettenberg. Thank you for looking after us we will definitely return and have recommended to friends who are visiting Plett next month

Sunday lunch was booked at the Plettenberg well in advance and we requested a window table to enjoy the views. Unfortunately, we were given possible the worst table in the restaurant. We were stuck in a corner, looking out onto extensive uninteresting shrubbery rather than the delightful coastline. As Sunday Roast wasn't featured on the menu l asked our waitress for details. Initially she stated that it wasn't available. She then asked if we had booked Sunday Roast to which I confirmed that we had. In that case I will need to speak to the chef. She returned a few minutes later and confirmed that both Roast Beef or Roast Chicken were available. This sorry and very annoying saga left a very sour taste and did very little to ensure that we had an enjoyable evening. To make matters considerably worse we both chose the beef which turned out to be full of fat and extremely sinewy. I brought this to the the attention of the waitress who somewhat dismissively said I will tell the chef. The lack of interest and apology was staggering. The very least I would have expected is for the restaurant manager to be made aware of our dissatisfaction and discussed the matter with us. The couple on the next table were also told that Sunday lunch wasn’t available. They therefore decided to order from the al a carte menu. Given our experience I think they were the lucky ones !! We had some phenomenal meals during our month long holiday in South Africa. It goes without saying that this wasn’t one of them.

An absolute feast for the eyes, beautiful interiors- very stylish! Views to die for, with a sighting of dolphins from the terrace- very special indeed! We had the most amazing experience, friendly attentive staff, delicious food and just all round a fabulous hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
