Tui Magic Life Calabria - All Inclusive

Our first time at this resort. Spent one week here. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Resort is a nice size, spotlessly clean, amazing swimming pool with separate splash pad for babies and toddlers and water slides for the older kids. Our room was in block one and very quiet. Multiple evening entertainment for all ages. The walk to the beach is through a wooded area which has play equipment, out door gym ( there is a separate, well equipped, indoor gym) and hammocks. The beach is a pebble beach so you will need beach shoes. Down at the beach there is a buffet bar which is included in the all inclusive price as well as toilets, a changing cubicle, water sports stand for canoeing and deck chairs with umbrella stands for shade. The sea water is clear, warm and the most beautiful aqua blue colour. Sunsets are fantastic. THE FOOD IN THE RESORT IS EXCELLENT. We ate at the buffet and didn't go to the speciality restaurant. In the buffets there is a good variety of dishes. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetable dishes. Multiple bread and pastry options. The most amazing fish griddle station. My kids were amazed to see an intact swordfish with a lemon on the end of its sword nose being cut up for the griddle in front of them. There was a carvery, a pasta station and a wood fired pizza station. Each station had some regular staples and some options that changed every day. We are a dairy free family. Every morning there were several dairy free milk options, a dairy free yoghurt and if you asked they will make you dairy free pancakes at the pancake station. At lunch and dinner they did a nice oil and herb dairy free pizza bread and a cheese less vegetable pizza option. If you ask them they will make a vegan cheese pizza. There was always a dairy free pasta choice. The kids have their own buffet table with the required chicken nuggets, fish fingers and chips but kids can also take from the main buffet. As for puddings the main buffet didn't have a dairy free option on display (and we didn't feel the need to ask for one). The kids buffet one night put out marshmallows and on another night there was a stand in the courtyard giving out candyfloss. The coffee shop (open lunch time and dinner time) had dairy free (soya ice cream) - again you have to ask for it and they will bring the box out to show you. In addition to the all inclusive stuff available the resort has ice cream that is not included in the all inclusive price. It cost between 2 and 3 euro and there was a good selection of dairy free ice lollies and one option of a dairy free ice cream sandwich. All food is labelled with allergens and to avoid any language barriers they do this through picture codes and there is an explanations of what each picture represents in the buffet and bar areas.

This was billed as an all inclusive 5 star hotel on the beach. There are a few things I must clear up. This is a strange review for me as I was affected by external factors (nothing to do with the trip directly), however, I will try to stick to the facts of the matter. However, these are some of the things I wish I had known before booking.  Location  While the hotel is located in Pizzo, it is rather remote. Nothing of significance is within walking distance, so you can't just pop out to the shops or to a restaurant as there is none of that around. Basically, you will need to depend on the hotel for everything you need. Adults only section. The resort is divided in two.  One section for families and the other section for adults only. As expected, the family section is loud and caters to families with young children.  We paid €15 per person per day for an upgrade to get access to the adults only section while keeping our room on the family section (we had a 15 year old and the adult section is for 16 and above. There are a few things to note. Food and drinks are much the same in both sections.  While the adult only section is more quiet, there were a few children (so it may be possible to book with under 16's) While guests at the family section are not allowed to use the adults only section, guests at the adults only section have access to the entire resort. Room We booked a family room and it was spacious and nice. There are no suits, but the family rooms are split level, so our daughter had her own separate area/ apartment.  While we tend to opt for suits when we travel, this is more than sufficient for our needs. There is no turndown service or room service, but the room was cleaned daily.  Star rating I can't consider this a 5 star hotel. Perhaps a 4 star but definitely not 5. I can see the aspirations to gain 5 star rating, but it's just not there yet. There were sufficient language skills for us to get by, and the staff were friendly and responsive, but they are just not on that 5 star footing ad yet. The beach  The pebble beach is located about 200 metres from the hotel and is accessed via a walk through a lovely wood with loads of amenities.  We were there in July, so the pebbles were scorching.  One important point to note is that there are loads of jellyfish and they sting. After my wife was stung and my daughter scared, we decided not to use the beach.  If you don't want to be stung by a jellyfish, stay out of the water.  Price In my opinion, this place is overpriced! You pay for 5 star service in Italy and there is a certain expectation. This place did not deliver at that level. I'm not saying that it was bad, but for this price, we would have a much better deal in Gran Canaria or Morocco or Turkey! This place is boarding on prices for the Caribbean and is not able to compete It's lacking a sense of “Italian-ness” and that's the best way to explain it All inclusive  As all inclusive go, we found this one to be lacking

Hotel and grounds were spotless guess services and Tui onside reps very helpful. Hotel in the middle of nowhere. Good selection of trips available to explore the area, at a price. On site shop expensive nearest shops 15/20 min drive. On site Spa well worth a visit. The first week of our holiday in the dining area was OK as there was an area labelled Adult only this was taken down on our second week and it was utter chaos. Food was a big disappointment having stayed at an all inclusive previously in Italy we were expecting good cuisine, found it difficult to put a decent meal together. Some of the meat and fish was questionable if it was cooked properly, and Broccoli was served for breakfast! Vegetarian options were few and far in the two weeks we were at the resort we only had vegiburgers twice, We asked for plain spaghetti one night only to be told not possible. Took the plain pasta one night and what I thought was tomatoe sauce only to find it was bolegnaise. The bolignaise and tomatoe labels were mixed up at the pasta station There was a significant increase of cross contamination of the serving spoons on the second week.

We enjoyed our third fantastic holiday within the Private Lodge area at TUI Magic Life Calabria for two weeks in June. The food was amazing and the staff were as friendly and welcoming as ever! With particular thanks to Annalise, Lucrezia, Isabella, Anna-Maria (in the bar), Anna-Maria (for the best omelettes at breakfast), Felipo and Michele for their truly wonderful hospitality and warm friendship and for making our holiday so, so special! The beach barbecue on the Sunday was, as always, a real highlight of our stay and a trip to the Fish and Grill Restaurant is absolutely worth a visit if you can (it would be brilliant if this could be open for more than one day a week as the food was exceptional). We will certainly be back for a fourth time next year. The Quinn Family.

Recently returned from a 7 night fantastic holiday at TUI MAGIC LIFE Calabria resort in Italy, wish we had stayed another week! The hotel is so clean and modern with a rustic/rural element to it. All the staff throughout the hotel were fantastic from the cleaners right through to the entertainment team. The food was amazing and such great variety. The beach is beautiful and clean with a lovely 5 minute forest walk. Nothing was too much trouble. Such a vast range of activities/entertainment both my 16 and 4 year old had such a great time and can’t wait to return! definitely recommend to anyone considering going there!
