Bay Inn of Petoskey

HORRIBLE! DO NOT STAY They lied about the room accommodations and refused to make it right. Website says front cabin sleeps 4. Claims one king size bed and one double sofa bed. What they have is one full bed and a pull out couch that does not pull out. We tried multiple times to contact management via phone, no one onsite They kept hanging up on us. They sent a text message refusing our refund and said we should have read the description better. Sent a screen shot of their website that said "sleeps four" and "one king & one double sofa bed." They will not respond. HORRIBLE PLACE AND HORRIBLE PEOPLE!

So disappointed in the complete lack of customer service. I booked the cabin for four nights for a yearly mother/son trip. On our first night, I went to open the sofa bed and found a note stating not to open it. Thinking such a request was strange given we required the use of it and was the reason we booked the room we did. We attempted to see if we could “make it work” and found the frame completely destroyed. I texted the number we were given to notify them of the situation and received nothing other than a request for our room number and last name. End of communication. I reached out the next day to see what they were doing regarding a possible fix for the situation. Was told that they weren’t having any luck finding a sofa bed. No apologies, zero attempt at offering any possible solutions/alternatives. Even if all their rooms were booked, there was no indication that they cared enough to look into it. We would’ve moved hotels had there been anything around with availability. In the end, I shared a queen bed with my 6 foot tall son because I wasn’t going to lose the opportunity to spend quality time with him.

We were on the second floor ( no elevator). We unpacked and tried to take a shower but the water pressure was not just low, it dribbled. I found the housekeeper who was still on premises. She tried but didn’t know how to work the shower and suggested we call the number on the window. There is no management on site. I spoke to an agent who called us back in about 15 minutes and she asked us to change rooms. That was a bit of a pain but the rest of the stay was uneventful. Room was clean. Beds were comfortable. Small mini fridge in the room. The website warns of traffic noise but it really wasn’t too bad.

I have been here a few times now and love this hidden gem. It’s so convenient for visiting the area. We get breakfast in Bay Harbor and then lunch/dinner in Petoskey and Harbor springs. I will say the second floor units have a better view of the bay and incredible sunsets. I stayed in the winter to ski as well at Boyne and Nubs so I liked the new hot tubs they added. Just so close to everything in the area!

They painted, added some frilly stuff, and tripled the price since last year. Don't bother. It used to be a nice mom'n'pop, but they sold it to some profiteers. No idea why they think these little crackerboxes should go for $250/night

Pleasant, contemporary style rooms. Very clean rooms. Quieter at night than I expected. Didn’t need earplugs like I did at 2 other motels we stayed at along the way. Beautiful views of the lake and bay. Patio with tables and chairs on front lawn, or benches on porch outside rooms if you’d like to sit with coffee or drinks. Initially I wasn’t sure our door had unlocked but it was just very hard to open and had to be slammed shut, but it did work.

BEWARE!!! The “operator” of this hotel is out of Singapore. There is NO ONE ON SITE AND THEY DO NOT ANSWER THE PHONE. Per an email received 2 days before check-in, we were supposed to receive an email with a key code for entry the day before our reservation began, but never received it. Had I read the email closely, it may have given me some clue as to the disaster that would follow. First, this was the first time that I noticed that the hotel was “Self check-in”. The email actually stated the following: “We are an old, boutique hotel! This brings some major pros but a couple of challenges and one is traveling noise and somewhat thinner walls, we have provided earplugs in your room in case it’s a bother!” I tried to call the hotel at the number in previous emails on date of check in. No answer. Arrived at the hotel and found another phone number on the door of the empty office. Again, no one answered, so I left a message asking for assistance ASAP. Called ********** and they could not reach anyone at the hotel either. They agreed to cancel the reservation and assured me that there would be no charge to my credit card. We had to scramble to find another hotel, and spent almost an hour on the phone trying to reach the hotel and with **********. Then extra driving to get to a new hotel. A lot of stress in the middle of what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway. I received a confirmation number of cancellation by phone and by email. So thought all was well. I checked my credit card balance online a few days later and saw that I had actually been charged on the day that I made the reservation, although I had selected “Pay at hotel” and this was confirmed in the follow up emails from ********** Still wasn’t too concerned, because my account on the ********** website showed that the reservation was cancelled and that a refund was in process. I waited a few more days and checked to see if the refund was processed. Since I didn’t see it on my credit card or on the ********** site, I started an online chat with **********, then a phone call, then escalated to another department. Two more ********** reps attempted to contact the hotel, and neither could get through. The rep then told me that ********** could not issue a refund, and that I would have to go through the hotel to get a refund. WHAT??? First, this rep had just tried to call them and knew that no one answered the phone – and I told him about my own attempts and previous conversations with ********** reps who were not able to reach the hotel. Second, this was a direct contradiction to what I was told when the first rep cancelled my reservation who said that the cancellation would NOT incur any costs. Third, the hotel did not abide by the terms confirmed in emails from ********** which stated that payment would be collected at the hotel. I asked how the hotel could charge my account at the time of reservation when ********** own internal email confirmation stated that paymen

Rooms are very clean and cute. Bathroom is dated but gives that old Mom & Pop feel although orange/red mold is visible in tile grout and soap scum in tub. Originally thought this would be a perfect place to come to every year however issues we had are that the ice scoop is left in a holder that is filled with bugs, the bathroom cleanliness and the icing on the cake was being told that we could not smoke out front of our room. Being told to move far away from the building to smoke was no biggy but when your are looked down the nose like you are a complete POS stings a wee bit. (Owner drives a Porsche Cayenne )

Excellent stay. Very clean and and very well maintained. Owners was very helpful and obvious they takes pride in the place. An excellent spot to take in sunset. Very comfortable beds.
