We stayed for 1 night, although their is some damp this did not effect our stay in anyway, we were in room 3 which was small but it was very clean, towels and bedding were very clean, we had a few drinks in the Bar on the evening before heading out, this was a pleasant experience. When we returned in the evening, although their was some noise from the downstairs bar but this did not effect us and we slept soundly.

Stopped one night Beat music plays till 12 we where unable to sleep and wouldn't recommend this as a place to stop if you like your sleep The room was clean though bins hadn't been emptied and best not to say what was in them We won't be going back and believe any posts about this accommodation should state about the music it's looking loud and the pub guests are louder

Great friendly hosts. Lovely, extremely clean bar, halls and room. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Water bottles in room were appreciated. Nice biscuits with tea and coffee. Great location in the centre of penrith, two minutes from the train station. We would definitely stay there again when visiting the area.

It is good that pubs like this survive.Stayed here night of Tues. 23rd Jan. 2024 - good experiences in Penrith finding helpful people (Stephen on the staff at railway station,Polish ladies working in Donald's,lovely meal at Indian Plaza restaurant). Chloe who works on Tuesday and Wednesdays at Castlegate Arms is a genuine warm hearted helpful person. Also my thanks to Stephen from Nigeria who worked as a cleaner. I wish them well. Hope to return again and long may the Castlegate Arms flourish. Danny

All pictures on *********** are photo shopped . First room we got given (room 5) was above the cellar and the floor was vibrating with the fans from cooler and the noise was just as bad from it . Old single pain glass windows and no heating. Moved to room two and was colder than outside, room was worn down and glass in bathroom was about to fall out and was like being in a freezer . Batteries dead for tv so unusable and wouldn't or couldn't change them when asked in the bar so I had to walk to the shops and buy some myself . Heating was eventually put on for us for a little over and hour and turned off again and was not put on again in the morning so was freezing again and wet towels because of it and too cold to use the falling apart shower . The place isn't worth £20 a night let alone the £90 they are charging. Avoid this dump at all costs .

This pub has been refurbished and cleaned out to loose its reputation it once had. It has introduced a pleasant atmosphere accompanied by great food of Jamaican origin. Shout out to the chef who is doing a fantastic job! A good mixed menu which will be improved upon and I recommend a visit if you are in town (both locals and travelling alike) Couldn’t recommend it more.

DO NOT GO IN THIS PUB! Horrible place, full of absolute degenerates. *****, fights, loud music, landlord/owner that does not give a toss. All this place seems to be is a place for all the worst people in town to go and do *****. I live near by and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t have to deal with some sort of antisocial behaviour, called the police numerous times, nothing seems to change. If you are new to Penrith do not go in this pub. Just a side note as I’m writing this review I can hear people fighting and arguing outside.
