Irene Apartments

Having read some bad reviews and some mixed, we went with an open mind. We came home yesterday from here, so felt I should do a review whilst it's fresh in my mind. We had room 102, at the back, in the far corner. The room is basic, the kitchen is very basic, it is rather dated, all very true, but it was sooo peaceful and relaxing. We didn't go to cook meals, we went to relax and this is what we did. It's quite clean, not spotless, but acceptable. The main negative was the pillows, they are absolutely DREADFUL!! We spent a week here, the cleaners were in 5 days of the 7, but we didn't get clean towels or clean sheets, but the bins were emptied and toilet paper was always replenished. WiFi is hit and miss, but again, we didn't go to Corfu to search things online. The position of the apartments is perfect, on the flat, no hill to climb, a massive plus for us. We weren't leaving the resort until 8.30pm for the airport and we were permitted to keep the apartment (€50) on upto the point of our taxi arriving.

We had a fantastic 14 night stay Can't understand why people book 2 star accommodation and then complain that it's basic! If you want a higher quality room, then pay a higher price! The rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable. The kitchen facilities are very basic but we're happy as long as we have a fridge and can make tea and toast. Who wants to cook a 3 course meal on holiday? The cleaner was so lovely and worked very hard. Our room was always immaculate. Pool area was clean and the staff very friendly and efficient. The location was great, supermarkets on the doorstep, loads of restaurants nearby and only a few minutes walk to the beach.

This accommodation is basic. Very basic. The apartment we stayed in 102, was very dated. Having paid an additional £180 to have a superior room, I’m not sure what we got for our money. There was nothing superior about this accommodation. We had garden view but this was an overgrown and unattended area and nothing to see or enjoy. The kitchen is equipped with poor crockery and has 2 cups, 3 plates and bowls, 2 saucepans and we had to ask for a frying pan. There is just enough cutlery for 3. There is no toaster but we improvised and made toast in the sandwich toaster. Poor overall in the kitchen. The bathroom has small shower area with the shower curtain which wraps itself around you when showering. It smelt damp in the bathroom and is really in need of updating. The toiletries they advertise and provide are 2 tiny bars of soap. Dreadful. The bed is comfy. The WiFi didn’t work, neither did the TV. We did ask but it was just too much to ask of the very curt and abrupt owner Irene. There was nowhere to hang towels or smalls outside other than basic plastic chairs. Again attention to detail was poor. The pool was lovely, large and clean however there were wasps covering the grassed areas so watch out where you sit down. There was good music played daily around the pool. We didn’t tie in to the breakfast but from first sight as it is around the pool area, looked very basic, like the apartment. I’m glad we hadn’t paid for breakfast too. We tried a coffee on the first day which was not good so didn’t eat or drink there again. We asked if we could have somewhere to shower before we left as check out was 11am and we were not leaving until the evening. We were told to change in the toilet around the pool. Nice touch Irene apartments. Very accommodating. There was nothing offered to encourage us to go again. Oh, if you want a room safe and air con, or want to use their gym or pool table, there are additional charges. They charge for everything over and above the basic room. €6 for 30 minutes to play pool!!!!! The cleaner was regular however left our door open one day which we found out after a day at the beach. This is not a 5 star hotel - but your not charged 5 star prices. I have no idea why people are complaining in their reviews !!! The apartment(s) we had were clean, tidy and functional. They had a distinct Greek charm which was actually quite nice. Yes they are basic but they are functional. The air con worked, the beds were comfy, we had a balcony over-looking the little road, a small kitchen and a basic bathroom. The rooms were cleaned on a regular basis and there was a room safe. The pool and poolside bar were very nice. Yes you do have to pay a Greek tax on arrival but that's standard practise. The downsides are reception is only open 10am-12pm which is a little inconvenient but there is always somebody at the bar that can assist you. The showers are very tiny but they do the job. On check out day there is no room set aside to leave your luggage, shower in or just chill in air con. If you are lucky enough to extend your room however its not a problem. The location is perfect, close to the beach, other hotels with pools, restaurants, mini marts and its only around 35mins in a taxi to Corfu town. Its set in a very pretty village, with a narrow road so its great to sit out on your balcony and watch the world go by. I would recommend these apartments.

We are still here as I write this. I have seen the other recent reviews and feel I need to redress the balance. This is the third year running we have been here. We stay in the Wellness apartments. They are immaculate and have everything you could need. The pool area and bar is fantastic. It's also immaculate. The grass surrounding the pool is like a bowling green. They take great care of the place. This is a family run accommodation and they take great care to make you feel welcome. There is a reason that almost everyone here has been coming back for years. If you are willing to be friendly back you will love it. Some people turn up expecting a 5* resort. This isn't that, it's a friendly, relaxing lovely spot. A few minutes to the beach and the lovely town with many options for meals and drinks. The food at the bar is lovely. I can't comment on the older part of the accommodation which is adjacent to the road but the wellness apartments are lovely. I've travelled lots of countries and done the "all inclusive" resorts as the children grew up. I couldn't stand to do that again. This place is our go to place for relaxation and friendly people. We are here now and have to say reception is never open snd when it is the lady there is not helpful. We arrived Saturday at midnight and no lights on and only for we turned on out mobile phone torch we would not have seen our names and where we were to stay. Tv has not worked and I've asked twice but no joy. We are in a room on the main road and the noise in the morning is awful. The adverts for here are making it look like quality and care. Very dissatisfied with love holidays for taking us here.
