Ndame Paje Hotel

The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool. Location is stunning. I booked a pool view room which for me is the best. Rooms were clean. Great shower and toiletries. Breakfast was really good. My most favourite accommodation in Paje. Views are breathtaking

Ndame Paje used to be a really nice place. But I have no idea what happened to it in recent months. The place has gone to crap. And the worst part is the management and office staff. I see from previous reviews that I’m not the only one to be treated so poorly by the management. So take a hint — don’t email them — unless you want to be berated for asking a question. Buyer beware !!

Worst experience ever, besides that nothing on the pictures is what you get, the staff is extremely rude, unpolite and unprofessional. we booked and payed for 6 nights and left after the second night to another hotel without refund off course. on top of complaining and asking to speak with management they were never available and never showed up in order to adress our problems and concerns, upon leaving they accused us of stealing a bathrope and their soap that was never placed in our room in the first place, we proposed them even to check out luggage, they told us they were not allowed to check our luggage and that if we did not pay we had to wait for the police to come and check our luggage, after two and a half hour of waiting and still no police, we decided to leave at that time security became aggressive and ordered us to pay 220000 Shilling or wouldn't let us leave at all, as this was our holidays and we did not want to waste any more precious holloiday time we paid and left. These hotel is the biggest scam and crooks we have vere experienced when travelling. never again that's a promise. Our only fault is that we did not read the reviews prior of booking this hotel, from now on I will always read the reviews.

After a wonderful safari week it was time to enjoy a quiet place at the coast. We arrived on a Saturday. It’s a noisy place and the evening turned into a staff party. Sunday continued with a pool party event. Loud music, external guests with soundbars. Apparently, the place is also used for locals and tourists in the area to exchange different “services” - with the help of the staff. Sunday evening continued with loud music (but with no guests in the bar) until midnight. Impossible to sleep. Management is completely invisible and NOT accessible! At the end of my stay I realised that part of the management (a lady) spent the afternoons in the pool area having a continued flow of white wine served. Obviously, no time to talk to guests. Rooms are small and dark. Service and staff is extremely poor and communication very difficult. Breakfast is good. I strongly recommend you to consider another place if you would like to relax and enjoy Paje. I wish you a wonderful stay in Zanzibar.

Ndame is a disgrace. I've never come across a more racist establishment on the whole island. First of all, I was there with my family, mom and dad from Canada, myself, 7 year old son, and partner. My side of the family is white, partners side and children are black. This should not matter- but it does. My partner was leaving for work around noon, and we were chatting at the car park on the way out. 6 security came and interrupted our conversation as they wanted to speak with him. They harassed him for ten minutes, as they have a black book at the entrance that coloured people must sign and he hadn't signed it yet. He told them that he has been there many times over the past year, and wasn't new here but that rule is new so told them they should put a sign outside so everyone is aware how they are going to view people of difference races inside, and that he was leaving anyways. The largest security then started punching him in the face repeatedly. For no reason. There is video evidence of this occurrence as well which has been submitted to the police. I was standing about 1 m away from the aggressive security, and am obviously pregnant at 6 months. (What a stressful situation to witness I may add). If people are going to try to conduct a business like that anywhere in the world, or have a black book in any culture, they should be shut down. This is racism. And after opening police report we found out it is also illegal for security to lay hands, police should be called. Owner was summoned to the station for questioning but did not come. So personally- I would never support a racism business and everyone should be aware of their behaviour and policies.

Unfortunately, such a beautiful place has ruined itself for myself and many people as the management/owners implement racist practices. Requiring people of color to sign an entry log while white people walk freely in and out. Recently documented clearly on video was the obvious racism of allowing white people to pass safely across their property at high tide while forcing local Tanzanian people to walk around their property through dangerous waves. I have been there multiple times for drinks and personally seen the owners speaking badly to their staff and even making fun of their own guest's appearances while enjoying by the pool. I am truly disgusted that people like this can live here in Zanzibar and oppress the local people. SHAME ON THE OWNERS.
