On the upside: a lovely location in the middle of the countryside with extraordinary views over the lake and fantastic walking nearby. We stayed three nights and saw the view in sunlight, under fog, in rain. It was magical. The staff were very friendly too. our room was also a good size. But ... the hotel is in serious need of an upgrade (which I believe is coming). The rooms felt old and, for a Parador, strangely lacking in character. The floor was buckled, there was black mould in the bathroom, the rooms lacked basic amenities - there was no kettle or tea or coffee provided, no local information or even a guide to the hotel. The pool had closed and the multisport court was overgrown and clearly unusable. Breakfast was shocking. Hardly any choice of cereal. You had to request milk (which routinely came out hot when we had asked for cold). The coffee machines barely work. Anything hot had to be requested from the kitchen and arrived dumped on the plate with no grace. On the first day we asked for some bacon which managed to be simultaneously burned and uncooked. Bread was routinely frozen and nothing (apart, possibly from the orange juice) felt fresh. The really odd thing was that it felt as if breakfast was still being run as if the pandemic was in full swing - everyone had their own pair of serving tongs, every piece of fruit was in its own bowl.., Dinner was a little better. But we were staying for three nights and by the end we felt as if we had exhausted the menu. But even dinner didn't wow us. We have stayed in many Paradors over the years and always loved our time there. This is our first time since the pandemic. I hope this experience doesn't reflect a general drop in standards.
