The Fountain Inn & Riverside Restaurant

The room was fine as was the overall atmosphere, but the staff could care less about your stay or answering questions. They tried to charge me when I arrived even though I had prepaid, and my bag had been delivered early that morning by the walkers bag transfer service. It sat in a public place all day, and the guy at check in didn't know whether it had arrived or not. I went to my room and unlike every other hotel I stayed in on my walking trip, there was no bag. So I had to trudge down all the steps, find my bag sitting in a public place, and then get it up to my room. I don't mind that necessarily, but the indifference was clear. I had been told by the baggage transfer company it is not a good place to stay. If I'm in Okehampton again I will find another place. Don't stay here. Eating and drinking is probably fine.

A fantastic experience as always from Karrie-Anne at the Fountain. Nice atmosphere, friendly service, delicious food and good value for money. Definitely recommend. Certainly the best place we've visited in Okehampton. Great selection of drinks too.

⭐ 1 Star I have been a loyal customer of The Fountain Hotel for years, regularly bringing my family for Sunday roasts. However, after my most recent visit, I received a £100 parking fine two months later—despite parking in the hotel's own car park, as I have always done. I called the hotel five times to ask for assistance, and each time, I was told the manager would sort it out. He did not. Worse still, he never returned my calls, which is absolutely unacceptable customer service. Given how poorly this was handled, we will no longer be dining here. It's a shame because we used to visit once or twice a month, but we will now take our business elsewhere. Be warned—if you visit, you might end up with an unexpected parking fine and no help from management!
