Ocean Crest Motel

Terrible experience, the owner pretends to be friendly to get you to stay then doesn't care whatsoever after you pay, very disrespectful and the motel was filled with issues including freezing cold showers, no way to do dishes and maintenance issues galore, I do not reccomend

Excellent location and staff were so accommodating and friendly. Older property but clean with good upkeep. Small bath room area with sink that was located more in the kitchenette area. Some type of shelf in that area for toiletries would have been great but we made it work. I would trade the space for the view any day. We will absolutely be back.

Check-in staff were super friendly and welcoming. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with cozy beds and a mini fridge, and room safe. The hotel is in a great location—just a short walk to the beach, pier, and two nearby restaurants. The area is super quiet at night also, even though the setup would make you think you’d be woken by road noise we weren’t, was able to sleep in both days. Just a heads-up: one of the restaurants has more of a bar vibe and may not be the best choice for families. The hotel had most of the basics, but be aware that they do not provide body wash, shampoo, or conditioner. If you’re someone who usually depends on hotel toiletries, be sure to bring your own. I thought I had packed mine but hadn’t, and I was surprised to find none in the room. My son joked that it’s because it’s a motel, not a hotel—lol! There’s an ice machine on the property, along with a washer and dryer in the same room. Interestingly, there was also a microwave in that area—but not in our room. It would’ve been convenient to have one in the room, especially for quick snacks or to reheat food. Overall, it was a good stay. My favorite part was definitely the short walk to the beach and pier—it made the whole trip feel relaxing and easy.

Pros: (1) You can not beat this location. This motel is literally just a few feet from the beach. We really love the size of Oak Island's beach and the fact that it was not crowdy at all during the week of July 4. (2) The beds were just double size but comfortable. (3) The room was clean. (4) Ladies in the office were helpful. Cons: (1) Even though there are fees for smoking, it seems like almost everyone around us were smoking but us. We could not enjoy sitting outside on the shared walkway because of all the smoke. My oldest son's hotel room reeked of strong smoke odor as soon as he first opened the door. (2) The hotel rooms were small and very plain compared to most hotel chains. (3) We were supposed to have an oceanfront room with a view, but on the first floor you do not have much of a view except of the pier and sand dune unless you are standing up and tall.

Worth the Money for a Oceanfront Motel. Friendly and the room was Spotless. The restaurant next door ( Island way ) was fabulous. Their is a pier right next door. We loved the stay and will be be our Motel of choice when we return...
