We had a 2 night stay as part of a private touring holiday. Reception areas looked impressive, and the room was clean and broadly satisfactory, but there were issues which hinted at penny pinching and things not being attended to. Firstly, we were up very early our first morning to go to Horton Plains, to find only cold water from the shower. We informed reception on leaving and on return but took several goes to get it attended to. Likewise to obtain a hair dryer. In the middle of tea country, we had 2 sachets of basic coffee and 'builders' tea. when we requested more, just 2 more sachets of the same were brought. Breakfast for that first morning was a pack-up box, my wife needs gluten free and that was achieved by omission of items, other hotels provided much better alternatives. We had a buffet breakfast the following morning, adeqate but easliy the worst we had on the whole holiday. Some of the serving staff were very young, no more than early teens? We ate out both evenings, the little Sambole restaurant on the main road was recommended by outr guide and was great - and very cheap! As other reviews have said, the layout is odd, from our 7th floor room, either a lift down, walk through to reception, then another lift (a scruffy service one) to the buffet restauratn and bar; or sneak through the top floor function rooms. It seems to deal primarily with coach parties and service is clearly driven by delivering minimum service to fulfill those contracts, disappointing.
