On the way to Calais from Austria we were travelling on the German motorway and decided to stop for the night and we thought of visiting the Nurburgring as I had never visited before. It was almost on our way so as we got nearer we looked online for a place to stay and happened upon this hotel. We had some language problems when we arrived as the lady spoke no English so she found her daughter and she checked us in and then we headed down to the bar for 2 beers. Within a few minutes Johann arrived and we chatted for at least one hour in the bar and he explained that he is the new owner of the hotel which he had just registered as The Home of the Silver Arrows as in 1928 Mercedes had build their first racing car IN THE HOTEL GARAGE which he then proceeded to show us along with many original photographs, amazing history lesson, one of the drivers was a Mr Porsche!!! Lovely guy and amazing history! He now has a lot of work to do on the rooms and the hotel for sure, our room was very old fashioned and surely needs a lick of paint and a new bathroom to start with. And the bar area also looks truly dated so good luck Johann!!!!
