Novotel Nottingham Derby

I wanted to stay here as I have done in the past , it was a lovely hotel and reasonably priced. Rooms were very clean. When I arrived I was turned away , there was no room at the inn as the hotel is being used to home immigrants , they have obviously sacked the cleaners as the place was disgusting

Asked receptionist to call a taxi for us - he pointed to the phone on the wall and said the phone number and the phone is just there. Is that a service you would expect from a 4* hotel? I don’t think so. Filthy walls and carpet everywhere. Mirror lights in the bathroom doesn’t work so had to do my make-up in dark. Only 1 pillow per person available. Stains on chairs, furniture worn out, no ventilation in the toilet. No water or any drinks in the fridge. Only 1 toilet roll and no other tissues available. Rooms not soundproof. Breakfast was uneatable - you wouldn’t give those sausages to your dog. Scrambled egg full with water. Beans tasted like a bag of sugar fell in while attempting to heat them up. Bear in mind there were no other breakfast options available and no, you don’t call a yogurt or stale croissant as an option. £12 per person? I don’t think so. Horrible experience. Couldn’t wait to get out and have a wash elsewhere after being somewhere so dirty.

We had a room at the back of the hotel on the first floor, which was very quiet with no noise from the motorway. The room was clean and spacious with a good shower room. We ate dinner in the hotel. This was adequate but a bit bland, although reasonably priced.

Stayed for 3 nights while visiting family for a wedding. There were other family members staying at the hotel. The staff never seemed to know what was happening and could never answer a question. One member had to look at the computer to tell me what time lunch was being served. They got the names wrong and kept saying another family member was in our room so much so they checked us out on the Sat & when we came in at midnight we couldn’t get into our room. On checking out they were trying to take full payment from someone’s card & it was being declined. Even when I explained again that I had paid in advance & gave them my paperwork they still couldn’t sort it. I just left the paperwork with them. They also messed up the food we ordered for lunch & although that member of staff was very helpful, we were told they had oat milk but couldn’t make a coffee with it?? Then we were told they didn’t have oat milk. She couldn’t work out how to use the screen on the till & when the order came it was wrong, The carpet was disgusting but the bed sheets were clean. Drunk students running up corridors one night & next day children running & screaming in the morning. Not somewhere I could stay again.

2 night stay. No room service after 9pm. No hot water for 24 hours on my 2nd night and no sign of acknowledging poor service. Front of House told me to email a complaint to the manager but after doing so, front of house emailed me a copy and paste email offering me a free night's stay. Hotel Manager would prefer to send their foot soldiers to do the dirty work. Poorly run hotel. Would offer up 1 star but breakfast was pretty good!

Being so close to the M1 meant we couldn't open a window for fresh air overnight but the room was basic and clean, and the air conditioning worked well without being too noisy. The bathroom was really nice and the bed was very comfortable. The carpet along the corridor outside our room was badly marked and really in need of replacing but this didn't detract from our stay. Unfortunately, the boiler broke down on the second day of our two-night stay and hadn't been fixed before we checked out so cold showers were the only option. The staff were very helpful and although the one evening meal we had was at best alright, the breakfasts were extremely good and there was plenty of choice. The hotel was very busy with people attending hockey, netball and basketball competitions at the sports ground in Nottingham (about a 15-minute drive away), but the staff coped magnificently with the sudden rush of people at breakfast. Starred it 'very good' because it was handy for the sports ground, and the helpfulness of the staff.
