The George Inn & Plaine

Came for a meal with 10 friends, a few from Denmark, we all had Sunday roast. Did not disappoint - the yorkshire puddings were huge! The meal was lovely presentation friendly staff and beautiful surroundings, will definitely be visiting again :-)

Stunning pub in stunning surroundings. Stayed here with family - loved the rooms, decor and vibe. Ate in the Dungeon, a private room for the family to have fun and make that little bit of extra noise! The beer garden over looks what can only be described as a traditional English post card of the countryside, cricket pitch, old church and hills.

Hubby booked us in for 3 nights for my birthday. Have stayed here quite a few times and each time is as good as the first. We stayed in the Sedgemore room. Lovely 4 poster, quiet and peaceful. Staff amazing and food delicious Will definately return again. Lots of history in and around. I love the quirkiness of the building. And if you fancy a trip to Bath, just hop on the D2, and you can both enjoy a drink and nobody has to drive. 5 stars plus for this place. Can't rave about it enough

What a stay we had at The George in Norton St Phillips, everything from the moment we arrived until we checked out was first class! The George is one of the most beautiful pubs you could ever imagine! All members of staff we encountered during our stay were so nice and friendly, the lovely lady who welcomed us and checked us in couldn’t have been nicer, she showed us to our room (The Samuel Pepys Suite) it was absolutely stunning! We unpacked and relaxed in our room for a while. It was a lovely evening so we had our evening meal sat outside on the beautiful terrace, I had fish and chips and my wife had her favourite chicken Caesar salad, both were delicious and huge portions. After a lovely nights sleep we had a lovely breakfast, I had the full English and my wife had the plant based breakfast, again, they were superb in both quality and quantity. We checked out feeling refreshed and relaxed, our stay was everything we hoped it would be and more! What I love about the Butcombe brand is that it’s of a very high standard without the rip off prices (like other places charge) We’ve been to a few Butcombe pubs for just meals, (The Cottage in Bristol being one of our favourites) this was our first nights stay in one. We’ll definitely be staying at The George again in the future and will also look at visiting some of their other pubs for meals and stop overs too. Thank you all so much for giving us such a tremendous time.

Absolutely wonderful. Linda & staff are so friendly & helpful. Loved every minute. We are couple on UK Roadtrip with our grown son. Food is faboulus, you can tell the kitchen & chef love food! On a nice day, sitting on outdoor terrasse i lovely, with stunning view Roooms are magical historical furnished.

Beautiful old building, delicious food, super friendly staff, good cocktails, clean room and comfy bed. Breakfast was good quality, locally sourced and hearty. Shower was a little temperamental! We stayed just one night en route to Bristol. Would definitely return.

Went to the George Inn for a celebratory evening dinner on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. We met for the first time there. All aspects of the evening were really excellent. The staff were so engaging, pleasant, polite and cheerful. The meals were top-notch, beautifully presented and prepared. Portions were perfect. The architecture, ambiance and palpable sense of history of the inn are a delight, particularly to me as an ex-history and design technology teacher. Thank you to the staff for an exceptional evening.

Had an amazing stay at the picture perfect old world hotel . From checking been escorted to our wonderful bedroom complete with 4 poster bed , complimentary coffee & real small bottle of milk ‘ to the latest walk in shower ! The meal in the restaurant was 1st class & the staff polite , great efficacy nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile 😃 will highly recommend this place !

I absolutely loved this pub. I had a Sunday Roast (pork belly) , the portion size was good and tasted amazing. Beautiful décor, quirky and full of character. The staff were very friendly , well presented and attentive. We will definitely be visiting again.
