I booked a balcony room with views over the Mournes as it was our wedding anniversary. On arrival, we sat out on the balcony, taking in the views, but our enjoyment was curtailed by a worker on a Cherrypicker carrying out renovation work to the outside of an adjacent room. Apart from it spoiling the view, the noise was rather irritating 🙄. We went inside but couldn't relax because of the noise. After 15 minutes or so, I contacted reception around 5.20pm and requested another room. The receptionist said she would phone me back. Another 15 minutes elapsed, and we hadn't received a reply, so I rang again. This time, no one answered. We waited another 5 mins or so, and a receptionist rang back. She said she had spoken to the construction worker and said he would only be another half an hour, and would that be OK ? I said my husband had driven a long way and needed to nap and so it wouldn't be OK. The receptionist said she would make further enquiries about an alternative room and come up to our room. About 10 mins later, a lady arrived and showed us another room, which we accepted. She apologised and said we shouldn't have been put in that room. The new room was identical but further away from the noise, and relaxation was possible. The bathroom in the new room hadn't been cleaned properly as there was makeup around the door handle on the inside of the door. I didn't complain about this as I was already deflated. The food was good and the staff in the dining area were very efficient and polite. The kitchen staff put a happy anniversary message on our dessert plates, which was a nice touch. Overall, we are disappointed with the Burrendale Hotel and will not return or advise family or friends to visit.
