One of the earlier reviews - 'Manage your expectations' - sums it up very well. We found Pauline and her partner very friendly and welcoming, ready for a chat and advice. I encountered an interesting phrase used by the locals during our week-long-stay - there's good, and there's Weipa good. The Heritage is Weipa good: good considering Weipa's isolation, often transient workforce (miners and associated workers going in and out, including early in the morning at the Heritage), and visitors often in 4WDs heading off to even remoter areas. It is not a resort in the Port Douglas sense, a place to go and stay in luxury and venture out of occasionally for a tour. It's a base, a motel. You enter through the Woolworths car park, and about a third of the rooms face the back of the store about 15 m away. Our rooms faced the other way, into a patch of woodland, which was very pleasant (especially as I watch birds), but we were warned to keep all the sliding doors locked and chained. The rooms are a good size, with unusual furniture (perhaps due to its reportedly quirky past), but all a bit tired. If your neighbours are at all noisy, you'll hear them, as well as any early risers. The meals are 'pub grub' - tasty but nothing special, but the young staff are lovely and do their best. So don't expect a resort, but a remote hotel, and you'll be fine.
