Senda Monteverde Hotel Member of the Cayuga Collection

Of the four places we stayed on our Costa Rica trip, this was our favorite I think. The views are amazing, the trails around the grounds are breathtaking, and the service was impeccable. For the cooler night temps, they brought hot water bottles to keep our feet warm even. I cannot recommend this place enough.

This was by far our favorite place to stay! Our cabin was perfect—spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully stocked with snacks and drinks to sample. The attention to detail made it feel so special. One of the highlights for my kids was spotting coatis roaming the grounds—they were so enchanted that we ended up buying a stuffed animal as a souvenir! The staff’s kindness truly stood out, especially Rodolfo, who went above and beyond by making a tiny bracelet for my son’s stuffed animal during the bracelet-making class. These daily classes were such a fun way to spend the afternoons, offering a chance to learn something new. In addition to bracelet-making, we also tried our hand at tortilla-making and even learned to craft a delicious cocktail. I can't say enough about the warmth, generosity, and friendliness of the staff. Every detail, from the impeccable service to the thoughtful nightly turndown with hot water bottles for the beds, made us feel completely spoiled. And the breakfast was absolutely superb! This stay was truly unforgettable!

We were looking forward to our stay here. However, while the grounds were very nice and the bed was super comfortable, there were many drawbacks. The junior suite is roomy enough. The bathroom is good sized, but the wide double sink takes up most of the counter space leaving little room for toiletries. And note that we’re were told. It to flush ANY TP down the toilet. Great shower with plenty of hot. However, the couch was so deep and hard it was basically unusable. I can’t imagine why anyone would put such a couch…anywhere. The only way to sit on it was to put bed pillows on it and then put your feet up. I mean, a ridiculously deep couch. It was nice to have complementary items (beer, wine, etc) in the mini bar as well as snacks The grounds are very well maintained with quite a bit of wildlife. We saw coati and agouti. Hotel is close to the main road and the motorcycles are quite noisy in the morning. The biggest problem was with the service. I’ve seen other TA recital rave about the service. Not sure if we hit a bad week or what. We found the majority of staff to be less than friendly other than the wait staff. No hellos, buena dias, etc. The guy that “greeted” us on arrival (shaved eyebrows) was almost rude. He rushed through the intro to the suite, skipping a lot of details. Not a great way to start your visit. Another, more troubling issue occurred on our check out day. The day before we told the front desk our driver was scheduled to pick us up at 11:00 when we had planned to check out. The next morning around 10:40 I spoke with Michael at the front desk letting him know we were going to bring our bags down ourselves. Unbeknownst to us our driver had arrived an hour early and Michael had told him just to wait till 11:00. The staff did not bother to tell us our driver was there. Despite the fact that we were on the phone telling them we were ready early. Even if we were planning to check out at eleven, why would they not just let us know that he was there early? They had our WhatsApp and room phone. No excuse for that lapse in service at a higher end hotel. All in all we would not come back

We hated to leave Senda! We were in Monteverde to experience the cloud forest and the hotel was an extension of that experience. The accommodations are two-unit bungalows tucked away in among the beautiful flora, so you have your own secluded sanctuary and the birds/animals are right there with you. The rooms are simple and luxurious at the same time. Very Zen. Food was healthy, fresh and delicious. Staff went out of their way to be helpful, including working with a local pharmacy to get me some much-needed cold remedies. Can't recommend enough.

Even though we are looking forward to moving onto our next location we are genuinely sad to be leaving this wonderful hotel. Lovely rooms with fantastic service. The food was fantastic and the staff were all so friendly, they couldn’t do enough to help and made our stay extra special. We all wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended!

We stayed at three different hotels during our Costa Rican spring break adventure and we all agreed that this was our favorite. It was quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed the beautiful grounds and appreciated their focus on sustainability. Our family stayed in one of the two bedroom suites, which came with many perks including free laundry services, breakfasts, a stocked complementary mini bar and fridge, a bottle of champagne for our anniversary, and hand written notes from the front desk. The meals were some of the best that we had on our trip, and the customer service was wonderful. My children and I attended a bracelet making class, which was lots of fun. Should we return to Monteverde, we would definitely stay here again.
