Westenra Arms Hotel

Two couples stayed for one night meeting up with relatives from the Monaghan area. We had dinner which was excellent and the service was superb. All the staff at the hotel were so friendly and helpful and nothing to much trouble. The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable. We would highly recommend the Westenra Arms Hotel. Ger & Anne

Need to update their bar menu prices.. we viewed the menu in advance online & got a shock when menus were handed to us! Everything was almost 2 to 3 euro more expensive that advertised!! A dessert was 9.50, 10 & 10.50 at the cheapest. Absolute rip off... hence to say we didn't order it.. has got very expensive all round..

Stayed here for 2 nights on a work trip where we had to make some last minute changes to the booking. The team at the Westerna were so accommodating and we enjoyed top notch service (even when 4 of us arrived for dinner as the kitchen was closing, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us). The hotel lobby is beautiful and the food quality at dinner and breakfast was excellent. Staff also took great care of my food allergy. The hotel is located in the centre of town with private parking at no extra cost.

We stayed one night at the Monaghan and loved the staff, our room, and the restaurant. It was a Sunday and the place was busy. Our dinner and breakfasts were delicious, beds were comfortable, and the staff were accommodating and lovely. The reception staff was kind, the manager was happy to help us with bags, and everyone was helpful to the older patrons who were also staying there. Summer is busy and most hotels like the Westenra Arms have trouble getting and keeping staff. We understand how that can affect the quality of service.

We went today for lunch and both had fish and chips from the carvery. The batter was dreadful - not cooked properly and very little fish inside. The chips were hard and would have needed a few more minutes in the fryer. We had been before and always had a good meal and were surprised there were very few in the restaurant. However we know now. The waitress who cleared the table came back and asked if I had enjoyed the meal and when I told her in as nice a way as possible what I thought of it she agreed it was horrible. However there was no compensation. Not good enough.

Haven't been to the Westenra in a long time so decided to go for a birthday treat. The hotel is a very homely and welcoming hotel but unfortunately the food didn't live up to recommendations. There are only 2 vegetarian options and sadly, the burger was not pleasant at all. Some staff weren't very friendly, abrupt and unmannerly but on the other hand, there were equally lovely staff who were very friendly and pleasant. A disappointing experience and definitely wouldn't recommend to vegetarians.
