We had a couple of days stay at the opening of the season. We had a fine time, but probably wouldn’t chose to come back. As you enter the hotel there is a descent of a dozen or so steps to reception, which we thought unusual. There is a luggage/Wheelchair lift but it didn’t seem to be working when we arrived and left. Not a problem for us but not great news if you have mobility issues. The rooms are spacious and modern but also empty of anything other than a bed, desk, chair and usual fitted wardrobe. No information about the hotel history/services or things to do in the area, no kettle etc (yes I know - it’s Spain!), very basic anonymous shower gel and shampoo, certainly no extras like body lotion, tissues etc. There was no duvet, just thin sheets which were not enough in chilly March (I did look in the wardrobe in the middle of the night but just an extra pillow). We had a ‘mountain view’ room which was really more of a view of the car park. Again the balcony was tiny, had 2 upright chairs and if you sat down you could bearly see over the concrete wall. As a holiday hotel there was just nowhere to properly relax in my room or balcony. It also pitches itself as a sports hotel and we did use the cycle garage which was large and had a useful cleaning area. However no track pump or basic tools that I would expect from such a facility. No CCTV so would be reluctant to use it if very busy and lots of people had the key. We went to see the gym. It had a couple of treadmills and bikes but limited provision for strength training, unusual when targeting a sports-clientele. The main bit of kit was a multi-purpose weight machine which was complex but probably was good if you knew how to use it. However realistically only one person or a couple who knew each other could use it at a time. There were also some free weights (a little rusty) but no bench. I don’t recall seeing towels, water, TV but I could be wrong. (In the end, we went to Jova Gym in town which was excellent and only €5). The spa was only open in the evening of one of our days and cost €15 so we didn’t bother. There was only one dining option and that was a brightly lit canteen-like experience. Food was also not inspiring. The range was OK-ish but cheap ingredients and not a lot of imagination used. They must had got the same staff back as last season as the veg were still over-cooked. I did have a good cheese omelette for breakfast one day and that was my highlight. For people without a car it is away from things. It does feel like there should be a small on-site shop selling basics. So we were confused - not corporate enough to be corporate - not holiday enough to be a holiday destination and not sporty enough to bring us in as independent cyclists (although some groups do use it). It’s like they really haven’t thought through any of their markets in any detail. Staff were fine and we had an OK couple of days, but we would probably not use Algeria in future.
