This place is fabulous and exceeded expectations. A special thanks to Cristina and Antionella, the two concierges who helped us solve an issue with booking a bus from Matera to Naples. Can't say enough good things about their kindness and professionalism. This was a peak experience in every way possible.

Looking for a cave hotel? This is place. Not too $$$ in off season. In the Barisano next to the rock church. The best views-especially at night. Great breakfast buffet and terrace. Would go back. Cristina was our very helpful desk/concierge person. Make sure you go to Casa Noha for the historical film.

We stayed one night to see Matera and wow! What a location. The rooms are very nice and modern and the staff is super nice. The hotel is in the heart of Matera and you can easily walk to all of the famous landmarks. Just be ready for all the hills and steps. Could not be happier with our decision to stay here.

I had the most amazing room, which was two adjoining caves built into the hillside. The room was enormous (and much more chic and beautiful than the photos suggest) and the bathroom (in the adjoining cave) was also huge and luxurious. The room was naturally cool and the bed extremely comfortable. There was a terrace outside with chairs giving a fabulous view over Matera. Everyone was very helpful and welcoming. I can’t recommend this place enough if you are planning to stay in Matera - the bistro associated with the hotel also has incredible views.

Sensational in every way! Fantastic location, stunning historic suite with equally stunning views from the terrace. Lovely, friendly staff that truely went above & beyond to make our stay so memorable. The Breakfast/Wine Bar attached was a wonderful place to sit and take in the amazing vistas and to enjoy complimentary breakfast every morning. Matera is such a unique place to visit but it is made even more special by staying at Palazzo Degli Abati.

The room is a real cave. It is very comfortable, equipped with modern furniture. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The bathroom was large and modern. Very comfortable beds. Our room faced a terrace with a stunning view. The bistro on the terrace has, probably, the best place to have a drink with a great view of Matera.

Cool staying inside a cave! But inside is very modern with everything one could need. Super quiet and comfortable and clean. Wonderful, friendly receptionists. Great view of the Sassi. Several delish restaurants steps away.

OMG what a gem of a find.....dont even look elsewhere! Simply the best view in town, the most comfortable bed I had in the Puglia area; clean rooms and very helpful friendly staff (Maria Antonella always ready to assist); so enjoyed breakfast on the rooftop and evening drinks/snacks. I stayed in the Ui Momm room. Was dropped off by my tour guide from Ostuni who carried my bags for about 10 minutes and on departure a driver from the area picked me up at the hotel. Stay 2 nights, lots to see - the most fascinating place ever! cannot recommend highly enough.

Such a fabulous experience staying in a cave hotel that had been so beautifully converted, everything was perfect!! The atmosphere and attention to detail are exceptional and we all loved staying here. Very comfortable beds and shower was so fantastic. Location is amazing and views are the best you can experience in the area. The breakfast was simple considering the standard of the hotel but with views and experience we were very happy. Don’t hesitate in booking here, you won’t regret it!

Personally I feel this hotel is in the best location in Matera, the views are incredible. Everywhere is walkable, restaurants in your doorstep and a beautiful terrace to have breakfast and watch the swifts circling overhead. Breakfast was perfect in every way, local delicacies, savoury and sweet combined with fresh coffee

This hotel was amazing by any standards. We stayed in a cave room. The bed was the most comfortable we had in Italy. The shower was amazing and the room had every amenity you could want. Luxurious robes and towels. The hotel service was personal and special. They provided lots of information regarding restaurants, tours and parking. We only stayed one night and had to depart early. The night before they brought a huge spread of pastries and fruit to our room for the morning. Did I mention the welcome drink and view? Our only disappointment is that we only stayed one night. Matera and this hotel deserve a longer visit.

Wow - just wow. This was the most wonderful hotel. The staff were really helpful in organising transport from an out of town car park to the door. Fantastic position overlooking the town from a terrace where a buffet breakfast was served. Drinks and snacks also available at the rooftop bar. Our room was huge with a glass floor over archeological area of the town and had a huge shower room in the rock. It was cool and super comfortable. Also great value compared to other luxury hotels in the town.

We spent two nights in this amazing city and had a wonderful experience. Maria Antonella and Antonella were friendly, efficient, and helpful. Our room had a breathtaking view of the city and the ravine. We started each day with a delicious breakfast on the patio of the Crialoss Bistro, overlooking the city. The hotel's location is perfectly situated for exploring the local sights and restaurants. We could not have had a better time. We highly recommend this hotel!

What an amazing spot for a hotel and in a cave. An interesting history this hotel has great staff, extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the Sassi you couldn’t ask for more. We parked in the closet car park which was no more than a 10min walk with luggage.

A unique stay in a cave room - a modern boutique style to complement the age-old structure. The hotel offered clear instructions on how to arrive and park etc and for sure I would recommend choosing the remote guarded car park only 10 mins out of town with the complimentary minibus transfer (€20 total) The first panoramic view as the minibus enters the Sassi close to the hotel will take your breath away! The friendly reception staff (speaking great English) provided maps and instructions although we didn’t find it a place that was easy to navigate. I would probably recommend two approaches- pre book a guided tour of some kind (walking, tuktuk etc) and then an independent walk around, to learn the most. We ate at Crialoss (not sure if it belongs to the hotel or shares the space independently) and the food was good, casual plates etc with the most amazing view we didn’t feel the need to go out in the evening.
